A video and photos show displaced men from Falluja captured by a Shia militia and held for two days. The men were tortured, insulted, and deprived of food before they were rescued by the Iraqi Army. [YouTube] [BasNews]
DaeshDaily comment. This is as stupid as it is despicable. Not everyone remaining in Falluja is a Daesh supporter. Daesh forces men to grow beards to make them look like its terrorists. While many videos appear online showing Iraqi forces helping the displaced families, a video like this will shatter that image and make people reluctant to leave the city. The Iraqi government should take a swift action and punish anyone who was involved in this.
Daesh and its supporters have one chance of holding Falluja: Turning the battle into a sectarian contest that causes Falluja residents to side with Daesh against the government—which is where Daesh started two years ago.

The spokesman of the Anbar tribes says Iraqi forces captured the heavy water station in south Falluja city. He says the delay in Falluja’s liberation is due to Daesh using civilians as human shields. NINEWA
Former Governor of Ninewa, Atheel Nujaifi, says “While some residents of Mosul just want to be free from Daesh at any cost, the majority believe it’s better to be trapped under them then freed by a Shia army.” While acknowledging that life has been tough for people living under their brutal rule, which sees residents flogged, imprisoned and executed for crimes as minor as smoking, he said the city had in some ways flourished. “What Daesh has managed to do is decentralize governance,” he said. “No longer is Mosul’s future determined by politicians in Baghdad. “We agree with some of the things they (Daesh) have done and don’t agree with others,” he said. “But we need to follow the changes, not to go back to what we had before.” [Telegraph]
DaeshDaily comment. Mr. Nujaifi has already made it clear that he wants to separate Ninewa from Iraq, and with his would-be Ninewa militia, the National Mobilization Forces, he is still plotting to get in on the Mosul liberation so as to position himself to do that. He has managed to engage KRG President Barzani and even Turkey’s President Erdogan in the plot—thus those Turkish troops in Bashiqa. If he prefers Daesh to the Iraqi government, then perhaps he prefers this region to be annexed to Turkey. The Nujaifi family has been long suspected to favor this idea.
Then again, Nujaifi was the Governor when Ninewa was practically handed over to Daesh, was deposed from his position as Governor as a result, and is now under indictment. So he is a pariah, but still maneuvering, including his recently established lobbying organization in Washington, working to persuade any gullible members of the government and Congress that his dubious cause deserves American support.
The occasional statement by US officials that there are complications involved in liberating Mosul are based at least partly on the scheming by Nujaifi, Barzani, and Erdogan to steal Ninewa from the Iraqi government after Daesh is defeated.
The spokesman of Atheel Nujaifi says the former governor has an agreement with the KRG’s president not to allow any forces, other than the Iraqi Army, to participate in Ninewa liberation with the Peshmerga and Nujaifi troops. [Rudaw]
DaeshDaily comment. The accuracy of this report will be doubted for several reasons, one being the report immediately preceding. Why would Mr. Nujaifi want the Iraqi Army to participate in liberating Mosul if he thinks that Daesh is better? In any case, under which constitution did Mr. Nujaifi and Mr. Barzani became the guardians of an Iraqi government they both oppose? And what meaning is there to an agreement by Barzani with a politician who is no longer in office. (Of course, Mr. Barzani is no longer legally in office either, but that’s another issue.)

Mosul
The PUK says Daesh put nineteen Yazidi girls in cages in Mosul and burned them alive because they refused to be sex slaves. [IraqPress]
DaeshDaily comment. The Yazidi girls may be in even more in danger now than before. Daesh and its backers want to hide this story. Mass graves tell fewer stories than witnesses.
A Ninewa Police commander says Coalition warplanes targeted a Daesh meeting in Mosul on Sunday, killing or wounding more than 35, including the planning officer, the sharia officer, a Belgian terrorist responsible for recruitment, a Saudi officer responsible for sharia issues, and the properties officer of Ninewa. He also says Daesh arrested “tens” of people, accusing them of providing information to Coalition and Iraqi forces. [Ghad]

In his letter to Ban Ki-moon, Khairi Bozani, the Director General for Yazidi Affairs, described the statement as being controversial and too vague. [BasNews]

Manbij Military Council troops entered Dadat town between Manbij and Jarabulus and clashed heavily with Daesh terrorists. The town is 10 km (6 miles) north of Manbij and if the Manbij troops are successful, that will completely cut off Daesh’s road access between Manbij and Jarabulus. [Hawar]
