Daesh attack in Shifta, Diyala killed 14, wounded 38. Political tensions continue.

The Council of Ministers held its meeting today. The Council reportedly discussed several issues including the electricity shortage. The Council stressed that the Mosul Dam maintenance is heading in the right direction and the company has started its maintenance work on the dam. All ministries were in attendance according to a statement from Prime Minister Abadi’s office [Mada]

However, Prime Minister Abadi’s spokesman says the new ministers didn’t attend the meeting because they haven’t taken the oath yet. [Sumaria] Baqir Al-Zubaidi, former Minister of Transportation, says only 10 ministers attended the meeting and the rest were acting ministers. [Sumaria]


Prime Minister Abadi said in a workshop with UNDP that corruption and terrorism are “one enemy”, asking the UN to help Iraq regain the Iraqi people’s monies that were smuggled outside the country. [Mada]


A Joint Operations Command (JOC) source says the Iraqi Air Force (IAF) conducted 13 sorties and Iraq Army Air (IAA) 15. [Harbi]

A Jazeera Operations Command source says Coalition warplanes bombed Daesh in Jazeera Baghdadi, destroying hideouts, gatherings and a vehicle bomb, killing the suicide bomber in addition to 20 other terrorists. [Harbi]


A Jazeera Operations Command source says Iraqi forces shelled Daesh locations with mortars in the Dolab area, killing 4 terrorists. The source also says warplanes destroyed a Daesh weapons storehouse in Jubba north of Baghdadi, a trench in Qusairat, and a fuel storage facility in the Sawer area. Iraqi forces also secured 202 civilians who had escaped Daesh controlled areas. [Harbi]



Daesh says it attacked a Sahwa military position west of Haditha, killing or wounding several fighters and capturing a vehicle in addition to weapons and explosives (photos). [DawaAlhaq]

Southern Salahuddin

A Salahuddin Provincial Council source says a tribal agreement was signed between Sunnis and Shia in Yathrib to let displaced families return to their houses next week after paying blood money for Daesh victims. The source says the agreement was sponsored by the Salahuddin Governor and the chairman of the Sunni Endowment. [Sumaria]




A local source says the final count of the terrorist attack on Shifta was fourteen dead and thirty eight wounded, including women and children. [Sumaria]

DaeshDaily comment. Daesh said yesterday it killed 50 PMFs in this terrorist attack. Daesh categorizes its victims and put them in groups that its supporters hate (infidels, Sahwa, Shia, PMFs, etc.) But anyone can see that the vast majority of Daesh victims are civilians, and many are children. The problem is not that Daesh propaganda is convincing, but that its supporters don’t care if civilians get killed.


The families of the victims of the Shifta terrorist attacks blocked some roads in Baquba demanding an investigation and a follow up on the Daesh sleeper cells issue. They ended their protest after meeting with the Diyala police commander who promised a comprehensive investigation. [Sumaria] [Sumaria]


Daesh killed Fatima Azzam, a two year old girl from Abbara on Saturday without generating a hint of disapproval from its online supporters. According to the Abbara subdistrict council chairman, Daesh “executed” the child in her father’s lab. [Sumaria]

A local source says 2 security battalions arrived in Baquba to provide security. [Sumaria]

DaeshDaily comment. A Sunni MP had urged the Prime Minister to move the security battalion from Baquba a couple of months ago. Since then, several Daesh attacks happened in the city leading to many objections from Shia politicians and citizens. In general, we cannot separate the Daesh attack from the political crisis in Baquba.  


The Diyala police chief says 3 mortar shells fell on orchards in Buhriz, without causing human casualties. He denied some social media reports about armed groups deploying in the governorate. [Sumaria]


A Dijla Operations commander says security forces captured a Daesh boat full of explosives in Khraisan River. He says the terrorists are moving by the river because of the strict security procedures at the checkpoints. [BasNews]


Muqdadiya/Abu Saida

A local source says unknown armed men shot and killed an old man in an orchard east of Muqdadiya. The source also says unknown armed men shot and killed a teenager near his house in Muqdadiya. [Sumaria]


A security source says a civilian was severely wounded when a roadside IED exploded on his vehicle near Abu Khanazir village. [Sumaria]


Daesh claimed responsibility for the attack on the on the Abu Saida subdistrict manager yesterday. [JustPaste]


Northern Diyala

Daesh says it severely wounded a PMF fighter in the Jizani area in Udhaim. Daesh also says it detonated an IED on a PMF vehicle in the Albu Waheed area in Udhaim. [JustPaste]




A security source says Daesh set on fire a family of five, including three children, in Riyadh subdistrict, accusing them of “leaving the caliphate land”. [Sumaria]


Daesh says Coalition warplanes destroyed a grain mill in Hawija yesterday. [A3maq]


A Peshmerga commander says Coalition warplanes targeted Daesh locations in the Kabiba area, 55 km (34 miles) west of Kirkuk, killing 7 terrorists. He says this attack was in response to Daesh targeting Peshmerga locations in the area with 24 mortars. [BasNews]




The JOC Spokesman says the first stage of Ninewa liberation operations is still in effect. He says Iraqi forces are cutting off supply lines then surrounding areas along the supply line and attacking them. He noted that Ramadi’s liberation took three stages. [Mawazin]


A JOC source says Coalition warplanes bombed Daesh in the Ghabat area in Mosul, killing 6 terrorists, wounding five, and destroying a weapons storehouse. A Ninewa Police source says Daesh issued a curfew on Mosul after the heavy Coalition airstrikes on the city on Tuesday. The source says Coalition warplanes targeted Daesh locations and hideouts near the 5 bridges in the city and downtown areas. [BasNews]


A PUK official says Coalition warplanes bombed a Daesh security headquarters on the west side of Mosul and destroyed 2 vehicles on the 3rd bridge in the city, killing 10 terrorists and wounding others. He also says Coalition warplanes bombed 2 more headquarters in Jawsaq and Dawasa neighborhoods and a vehicle near Yarmouk neighborhood, killing a Daesh local leader and 3 of his bodyguards. A PUK official says Coalition warplane destroyed a Daesh headquarters in Khirba village in Hammam Al-Alil south of the city, killing a Daesh “judge” and 2 of his bodyguards. [PUKMedia]

A Ninewa Police source says Daesh evacuated 2 of its weapons storehouses in Qayara, fearing coalition airstrikes, then blew them up. The source says four civilians, including a six year old child, were wounded by the explosion. [BasNews]

The KRG President, Masoud Barzani, met with the Italian Minister of Defense, the Italian Ambassador to Iraq and the Italian Consul in Erbil. The Minister also visited the Mosul Dam and a Yazidi displaced people camp in Erbil. [Rudaw] [Rudaw] [BasNews]


A Kurdish MP says the Kurdish Parties will hold a meeting to decide whether the Kurdish minister and MPs return to Baghdad or not. He says that there are calls from “friendly states” who are urging the Kurds to return. [SotKurdistan]

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says Turkish border guards have killed thirty Syrian citizens who were attempting to cross the border so far during 2016 , including women and children,. Human Rights Watch says Turkish border guards killed five Syrians, including a child, and wounded fourteen severely between the months of March and April. [ROJNews] [EnabBaladi]

Local activists say Daesh terrorists attacked Kishkish village, south of Shaddadi, with 2 vehicle bombs. Daesh also launched 6 Grad rockets on different areas in Shaddadi, including the hospital, killing or wounding several people. Daesh also attacked Azzawi but the attack failed. [Dorar]


Daesh says it terrorists attacked Azzawi and Meshaweh villages, southwest of Shaddadi. Daesh says a group of Daesh attacked the village and drove the YPG out before retreating safely. Daesh also says 4 of its suicide terrorists detonated their explosives vests in the second village. Daesh says 30 YPG fighters were killed or wounded in the 2 attacks. [A3maq]


Northwest (Aleppo, Idlib)

A Turkey-backed Syrian opposition commander says Daesh launched a massive attack northeast of Azaz, but the opposition groups stopped the attacks, killing a Daesh terrorist and wounding others. Daesh tried to sneak into a village east of Azaz but were also stopped by the opposition. Daesh targeted Mare’ with Katyushas and mortars, wounding several civilians. [ARA]

Local sources say Ansar Bait Al-Maqdis terrorists secretly buried the bodies of 40 of their members who were killed, apparently by an airstrike, in a hideout in Dhahir village on Sunday. [VetoGate]


Daesh says it detonated an IED on an Egyptian Army and police convoy near the Al-Wadi Dam, destroying an armored vehicle and killing or wounding several soldiers. [JustPaste]

Local sources say water services were restored in Sheikh Zuweid for 2 hours after it had been cut off for over a month. Local officials blamed the electricity shortage for the situation. [ElWatan]

3 terrorists were attempting an ambush on a security vehicle but the occupants were made aware of their approach and shot and killed them on the international road of Sheikh Zuweid. [VetoGate]

Local sources say Libyan warplanes bombed several terrorist locations in Sabiri, Hout Market, and the western side of Benghazi. [AfriGate]


A military source says Libyan troops stopped a Daesh attack in the Tika area of west Benghazi, forcing the terrorists to retreat. A Libyan battalion commander was killed in the battle. [Libya24]

Central coast

Local sources say Libyan warplanes bombed Daesh locations and vehicles near Al-Hisha west of Sirte. [Libya24]


Local sources say Daesh terrorists are raiding houses in the areas they captured recently near Misrata and arrested “tens” of citizens. Daesh also executed several military and security personnel during the last few days. [Libya]


An informed source says a Tunisian Daesh leader fled Sirte with 2 other terrorists after stealing 45,000 Libyan Dinars. The terrorists used to work in Daesh’s “money house,” responsible for collecting taxes from the people of the city. [Libya24]


A local official says 700 families left their houses in Sirte and arrived in Tajura in the northwest. [Libya24]

Local sources say Daesh is patrolling the deserts around Sirte looking for displaced families who had left the city. [Libya24]

A Tunisian NGO says it is trying to bring back 43 Tunisian terrorists from Syria and 12 from Iraq. It says that the Syrian authorities are willing to cooperate while the Iraqi authorities are not. All of these terrorists are sentenced to life in prison or death. [Tunisien]


The Tunisian Ministry of Interior says it captured a Daesh cell of 3 terrorists in Kebili who were recruiting for Daesh using the internet. Members of the cell provided information about another cell of 3 who were planning to attack security forces. [Tunisien]


Other countries


Italian police arrested 2 Daesh suspects in Puglia. The suspects are part of a 5-member Daesh cell that was planning attacks on Rome and London. [Sumaria]
