Turkey does not intend to stop what he described as retaliatory cross-border shelling of YPG positions inside Syria, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday. He says the United States has to choose between support from Turkey or supporting Kurdish fighters. [Welati]

The Syria Democratic Forces seized control of the villages of Mashtal and Mashwar outside the city of Al-Hawl after fighting with Daesh on Wednesday, according to a source close to the YPG, who said that the fighting resulted in the death of 14 Daesh militants. The SDF is preparing wide-scale operations with the objective of taking control of the rest of Hasaka governorate from Daesh, according to a source close to the Self-Administration Government that claims authority in northern areas of Hasaka and other Kurdish-controlled parts of Syria. [ARA]

However, Daesh reportedly seized complete control Wednesday over the city of Suluk, north of Raqqa, a year after losing control of it to the YPG. Daesh launched wide-ranging attacks on YPG positions in and around the town, killing an unspecified number of YPG fighters in the assault, forcing the YPG to withdraw. The two groups also traded sniper fire in the area, causing deaths on both sides. Suluk is a city of 24,000 Arabs, many of whom fled their homes after the YPG seized control of the city and allegedly forced Arab residents into displacement. [Qasioun]

The fighters departed Kafraniya with their families to reach the nearby Daesh lines. Daesh accepted the fighters but will require them to pledge allegiance to Daesh, take a re-education course, and fight with Daesh in its local battles, in exchange for not facing any penalties from Daesh. The Syrian Army vacated Kafraniya early in the week allowing the YPG to take control of it without a fight. [Qasioun]

Opposition and Islamic factions fought renewed battles against the Syria Democratic Forces in their bid to prevent the latter from controlling roads that connect Azaz to Mare’ north of Aleppo, according to an opposition commander. Mare’ is besieged from the east by Daesh, so SDF control of access from the west would give the SDF strategic dominance over the city. The SDF has requested that militias in Mare` hand over the city peacefully but this request has been met with refusal. [ARA]
