REPORTS FROM IRAQ

ANBAR

The Joint Operations Command refutes the reports about US troops coming to Anbar and about suspending the operations of the Iraqi Army and the PMFs in Anbar. [Maalomah] The American Embassy in Baghdad also refuted the reports. [Mada]

DaeshDaily comment. Sounds like it was a Daesh rumor; also sounds like an old Baathist trick.

Ramadi

The Minister of Defense says in a CoR hearing that Iraqi forces have encircled the city of Ramadi but will need a little more time to liberate it. He also says the help from the Coalition is better now and its airstrikes on Daesh hideouts are more precise. [Buratha]

The IAA attacked Daesh from the air north of Ramadi, killing 7 terrorists and injuring 11. [IWMC Report]

The IFP commander says Iraqi forces stopped a Daesh attack on Khaldiya, killing 4 terrorists and destroying a vehicle. [Baghdadia]

Iraqi forces killed 2 Daesh terrorists trying to plant IEDs north of Ramadi. [IWMC Report]

Iraqi forces destroyed 3 Daesh rocket launchers in Albu Aitha. [IWMC Report]

A security source says Iraqi forces killed 12 Daesh fighters in Hsaiba east of Ramadi, including a Saudi terrorist called Abu Hafsa. [Sumaria]

A security source says an IFP force destroyed a Daesh supply vehicle and killed 3 terrorists inside it and destroyed 5 Daesh locations east of Ramadi. [Ghad]

Falluja

A local PMF commander says Iraqi forces conducted a military operation in Rashad in Qarma, killing a foreign Daesh leader called Abu Jumana Al-Muhajer and 4 of his associates and destroying a big weapon storehouse and 3 trucks and a rocket launcher. [Mada]

The commander also says Iraqi forces shelled a Daesh meeting at a house in Subaihat in Qarma, killing 9 terrorists. [Baghdadia]

He also says Iraqi forces conducted a search operation east of Falluja and arrested a notable local Daesh leader. [Maalomah]

Baghdad Operations Command says its troops detonated 28 Daesh IEDs and destroyed 10 targets in Qarma. The Iraq 60th Brigade killed a terrorist and wounded 3 in the Al-Abed area. The 2nd Rapid Intervention Brigade killed 4 terrorists and destroyed their vehicle in Nuaimiya. [BOC Facebook Page]

Hit/Haditha

A member of Baghdadi subdistrict council says more diseases and viruses are spreading in the city because of the lack of clean water. Daesh cut off the water on Baghdadi and people there are forced to drink unclean water directly from the river. [Sumaria]

DaeshDaily comment: The water level in the Euphrates decreased significantly after Daesh closed Al-Tabaqa Dam in Syria.

A security source says the Coalition bombed Daesh near Baghdadi, killing many terrorists and destroying a rocket launcher. [Ghad]

Jazeera Operations Command killed 27 Daesh terrorists in the Al-Dolab area, northeast of Baghdad on the river. [IWMC Report]

Western Anbar

A Lt. Colonel in Anbar Operations Command says Iraqi forces conducted a large campaign north of Al-Qa’im and killed a Daesh sharia judge, a Syrian terrorist called Abu Dhari and 9 of his associates, and destroyed 3 vehicles and a rocket launcher in addition to 7 suicide bomber guest houses. [Ghad]

DaeshDaily comment. This report is significant because Iraqi ground forces have not operated in this mostly Daesh-controlled area in far western Anbar. This and recent reports on Coalition bombing missions in western Anbar suggest that Iraq is extending its Anbar campaign to the west. However, neither side can hold ground in the open desert area away from the cities and the Euphrates.

The Iraqi JOC says the Coalition, based on information provided by the Iraq Federal Information and Investigation Service, bombed the biggest Daesh car bomb and IED factory in Iraq, located in Akashat between Al-Qa’im and Rutba, and killed many terrorists. [Mada]  Akashat is a phosphate mining town on the Syrian border.

A security source says the Coalition bombed the Daesh headquarters in Rutba, located in the Agriculture Directorate, killing 9 terrorists and injuring 4. [Baghdadia]

A security source says a Border Guard Battalion commander and a soldier were killed and an officer and another soldier wounded when an IED planted by Daesh exploded on their convoy near the Annaz border crossing on the border with Saudi Arabia. [Sumaria]

SALAHUDDIN

The spokesman of the Salahuddin Tribal Council says 2 displaced people from Salahuddin died in the Nukhaib of Anbar near Kerbala and asks the government to allow 75 families trapped there to cross into Salahuddin. He says these families escaped the military operations to Shirqat, then to Mosul, but then ran away from Daesh. [Sumaria]

Baiji

The PMF spokesman says Daesh fighters, mostly suicide bombers from central Asia, are fighting in Baiji because of its importance for the terrorists. He says Iraqi forces are killing such terrorists by the “dozens” every week and can identify their Asian origins from their dead bodies. [Sumaria]

A PMF source says Iraqi forces conducted a security operation in Baiji and captured 3 Daesh Saudi terrorists. An IFP source says Iraqi forces destroyed 2 Daesh vehicles in Baiji while the IAA destroyed 2 Daesh construction shovels trying to open an alternative road from Fatha to Baiji refinery. [Buratha]

A source in Salahuddin Operations Command says the IAA destroyed a Daesh convoy of 4 vehicles heading from Makhoul Mountain to Baiji. [Mada]

The Anti-Terrorism Service troops killed 6 Daesh terrorists and destroyed a vehicle and 2 motorcycles in Baiji. [IWMC Report]

A PMF commander says PMF snipers killed 2 Daesh fighters trying to sneak into a residential area close to Baiji refinery. [Sumaria]

Shirqat

A security source says the IAA attacked a Daesh convoy in Shirqat, killing 30 terrorists and destroying 6 vehicles. [Maalomah]

A security source says unknown armed men shot and killed 4 Daesh members at a mobile checkpoint in the center of Shirqat. [Ghad]

A security source says unknown armed men shot and killed a Moroccan Daesh terrorist called Abu Akram Al-Maghribi as he left his house in Shirqat. [Maalomah]

A security source says Daesh is sending more reinforcements to Shirqat preparing for a major attack from the Iraqi forces. [Etejah]

DaeshDaily comment. All of this is good news for Iraq. Shirqat is at the northwest corner of Salahuddin on the road into Ninewa. It’s an obvious military target, but Iraq forces have been unable to fully secure Baiji in order to move on to Shirqat. The Shirqat news helps explain the news above about Daesh fighting hard to hold some ground in Baiji.

Samarra

A security source says Iraqi Army artillery, based on intelligence information, shelled 10 Daesh hideouts in Jazeera Samarra, killing “dozens” of terrorists. [Maalomah]

A military source says Iraqi forces found a big Daesh car bomb and IED factory in Al-Sadda west of Samarra and arrested 4 terrorists. [Etejah]

Tikrit

A security source says the IAA bombed Daesh in Himrin Hills east of Tikrit, killing 12 terrorists. [Baghdadia]

BAGHDAD

A Shia MP says Iraqi political fronts have threatened PM Abadi that they won’t “remain silent” if the reforms threaten them (intended as a political warning). [Sumaria]

A member of the Security and Defense Committee in the CoR says the F-16s changed the equation in the fight against Daesh because of their precision in targeting Daesh locations. [Etejah]

A security source says a Russian plane arrived in Baghdad carrying 300 tons of weapons and ammunition for the Iraqi armed forces. [Ghad]

Overall, the Coalition flew 14 sorties, killing 38 terrorists and destroying 7 hideouts, 2 tunnels and 2 vehicles. [IWMC Report]

According to security sources:

  • Unknown armed men kidnapped an advisor of the former Anbar Governor in Baghdad center. [Baghdadia]
  • An IED exploded near a popular market in Saba Al-Bor in north Baghdad, killing 2 civilians and injuring 7. [Mada]
  • A civilian was killed and 6 wounded when an IED exploded near a popular restaurant in Husseiniya in north Baghdad. [Mada]
  • Unknown armed men shot and killed 2 civilians in their car in Habibiya in Sadr City. [Mada]
  • An IED exploded near a liquor store in Mashtal in east Baghdad, killing the store’s owner and injuring 4 other civilians. [Mada]
  • Two civilians were killed and 5 wounded when an IED exploded near a popular market in Mada’in in south Baghdad. [Maalomah]
  • The body of an unknown man was found shot in Saidiya in southwest Baghdad. [Mada]
  • Four unknown bodies were found in Abu Ghraib in west Baghdad. [Maalomah]

DaeshDaily comment. There have been several nasty incidents lately in Abu Ghraib. This         reflects its location at the western edge of Baghdad Governorate, on the Anbar border near         Falluja, and the large number of Daesh supporters there. Parts of the Baghdad Governorate         do have significant Daesh pockets, another being Tarmiya at the northern end of the         Governorate.

DIYALA

A member of Diyala GC refutes the media report from yesterday about an attack on an Iraqi Army headquarters in Mansouriya that supposedly killed 7 soldiers and wounded 5. [Sumaria]

The bodies of 2 unknown men were found shot east of Muqdadiya. [Sumaria]

Unknown armed men shot and killed a police major as he left his house in Abu Saida west of Muqdadiya. [Baghdadia]

An IED exploded on a police patrol in Mandali near the Iran border, east of Balad Ruz, killing a police officer and injuring 3. [Baghdadia]

KIRKUK

A security source says the IAF F-16s bombed and destroyed Sadr Al-Nahar Bridge on Al-Zab River northeast of Hawija on Monday. The bridge was used by Daesh for their supply line from Mosul to Baiji and south Kirkuk. [Mada]

The Iraqi Joint Operations Command says the F-16s are bombing Daesh in Hawija and forcing the terrorists to leave towards Shirqat and Mosul. [Sumaria]

A local source says Daesh kidnapped 30 young men in Hawija, accusing them of plotting to assassinate Daesh members. [Sumaria]

NINEWA

A PUK official says 17 Daesh members were killed in clashes with a local tribe west of Mosul. Daesh executed 4 members of the tribe last week. [Karemlash]

An MP from Ninewa says Daesh executed 4 government employees in Hammam Al-Alil, 35 km (22 miles) south of Mosul, publicly accusing them of working with the Iraqi government. [Sumaria]

A local source says Daesh beheaded 2 men in Mosul accusing them of blaspheming God. [Sumaria]

DaeshDaily comment: Following Daesh supporters’ discussions online we know that cussing Daesh’s leader, Awwad Baghdadi, or even criticizing him in any way, is defined as blaspheming  God and the offenders should be killed mercilessly. Most likely these two men did nothing but criticize Daesh or its leaders in some way. It’s another old intimidation technique borrowed from the Baathists (often by Daesh members who are Baathists).

An MP from Ninewa says the Iraqi Haj Commission prevented 400 pilgrims from Ninewa from going to Saudi Arabia and gave their seats to government officials. [Ghad]

DaeshDaily comment: Our sources in Baghdad informed us that the Commission prevented some young men from accompanying their parents to Haj for security reasons, but their count is way less than 400. We can’t blame the Commission, however as many Iraqi officials really need to go to Mecca and repent.
