REPORTS FROM IRAQ

Now trending on social media: a video of an Egyptian cleric saying anyone who becomes a Shia should be killed, and that their blood equals the blood of snakes or mice or mosquitoes, and that anyone who kills them will go to heaven. [Facebook]

DaeshDaily comment: The amount of hatred being spread by mosques over much of the world is appalling and consequential. Such clerics reflect the Salafi-Takfiri line, but not the Sunni faith as a whole. Many are funded by the Saudis to counter Iran, but are raising a generation of suicide bombers who think killing civilians is the best pathway to Heaven. An amazing number of them have died in Iraq and Syria and their successors keep coming. Iraq, Syria, Yemen and Lebanon have become the battlefields of this unholy battle between Iran and the Saudis.

The silence in the face of this message is a crime. The terrorists produced by this sociopathic line of thinking, who don’t die as suicide bombers, are going back to their countries to attack civilians there. Egypt is undermining its own military operation against Daesh when it allows extremist clerics like this to influence its people. Daesh is the pinnacle of this thinking and we will never get rid of Daesh and similar organizations without dealing seriously with such “clerics” who spread their poison in a sick cause, not only in Arab and Muslim countries but also in the west.

Elsewhere in Anbar

A PMF spokesman refutes the reports about the PMFs withdrawing from Anbar after the arrival of American troops. He says Anbar liberation is the Iraqi forces’ job and the participation of the Americans troops will serve Daesh. [Iraq Press]

DaeshDaily comment. There is a Sunni rumor that US troops are coming to Anbar, apparently baseless.  The rumor is enough to bring another blustering statement from an anti-American Shia militia spokesman. We wonder if the gentleman would also like the Americans to stop bombing Daesh in Anbar so as to make him feel better.

Local officials from Anbar say the Iraqi Ministry of Education did not allow thousands of graduating high school students from Anbar, in areas under government control, to participate in final exams. The chairman of Ameriyat Al-Falluja subdistrict says 4,000 students demonstrated to demand participation in the central exams. [Sumaria]

DaeshDaily comment. This is a once in a lifetime exam that determines what university placement each student who passes will get. The students’ college education and career depend on it. Those who fail to pass, or don’t take the test, are forced to repeat their entire final year of high school. All of which makes the Ministry of Education, which one might presume to  be a ministry of smart people, look incompetent. It’s another example among too many of why Iraqis are frustrated with their government.

He says the new draft requires that NG commanders to be graduates of the military colleges and to be from the same governorates, which excludes the PMF commanders and allows Saddam officers to come back.
