REPORTS FROM IRAQ

 

Among today’s major developments:

Iraqi forces reported clearing Daesh from more area around Ramadi Government Compound.

Ousted Salahuddin leaders launch political counter-attack.

Friday pro-reform demonstrations resume like clockwork in Baghdad, other cities.

 

ANBAR

Ramadi

The Anbar GC Chairman says Iraqi forces cleared several areas around Ramadi, including several parts of the large Government Compound in north Ramadi, killing more than 300 Daesh fighters. [Mada]

DaeshDaily comment. It is worth noting that the positive Ramadi reports of yesterday and today came from independent media, based on information from the GC Chairman, and are not yet reflected in official government media.

 

A security source says Iraqi forces supported by Coalition airpower conducted a military operation around the recaptured Kilo 5 area. They cleared the Muhandiseen area and destroyed 3 suicide bomber guesthouses, killing many Daesh fighters. [Mada]

 

An Iraqi Army 8th Division source says Iraqi artillery shelled a Daesh gathering in Jazeera Khaldiya, 20 km (12.5 miles) east of Ramadi, killing 20 Daesh members and wounding 35. [Mada]

 

A security source says Coalition planes bombed a Daesh gathering in the Tameem area southwest of Ramadi, killing 10 Daesh members. [Sumaria]

 

Anbar Operations Command troops destroyed 3 Daesh vehicles carrying machine guns and a booby-trapped motorcycle northwest of Jaraishi. [IWMC Report]

 

The Anbar Operations Commander says Daesh is using motorcycles in its suicide attacks against Iraqi forces in Ramadi. He says Iraqi forces killed two suicide bombers on motorcycles in Jaraishi north of the city, and that his troops destroyed three Daesh vehicles carrying machine guns and defused 68 IEDs in the same area. A security source says Coalition planes destroyed seven Daesh vehicle bombs in the Kilo 35 area west of Ramadi. [Ghad]

 

Local sources say civilians in Ramadi are suffering a shortage of food supplies in the city after Iraqi forces surrounded it from all sides. [Maalomah]

 

Falluja

The IWMC says the IAF destroyed a Daesh vehicle bomb factory in Hay Al-Shuhada in Falluja city. [AIN]

 

A security source says Iraqi Army 1st Division troops captured the Leather Factory east of Falluja. [Baghdadia]

 

Coalition planes bombed Daesh in Qarma, killing nine Daesh members and destroying two hideouts, a mortar unit and two heavy machine guns. [IWMC Report]

Hit/Haditha

A security source says Iraqi forces destroyed 16 IEDs while clearing Albu Hayat. Iraqi forces found 9 more IEDs in the Kilo 160 area. [Baghdadia]

 

Daesh says it destroyed an Iraqi Army Humvee with a rocket in Albu Hayat. [JustPaste]

 

Western Anbar

The IWMC says the IAF bombed Daesh in Al-Qa’im, killing the commander of Daesh’s Tabuk Battalion, an Uzbek terrorist called Abu Bakr, and several of his associates. [Mada]

SALAHUDDIN

The Salahuddin Governor voted out yesterday says many members of Salahuddin GC have never even visited the Governorate since it was liberated from Daesh and some have family members fighting with Daesh. He says he has not been informed about his dismissal yet and he will go to court. [Sumaria] [Sumaria]

 

The Chairman of Salahuddin GC, also voted out yesterday, says several GC members took bribes to vote for his dismissal. He accused the CoR Speaker Saleem Al-Jubouri of organizing the vote and says he will go to the court. [Buratha]

 

Baiji

Local sources say Shia militias burned more than 170 houses and 3 mosques in addition to other buildings in Baiji so far. [Gharbiya]

 

A security source says the IAA targeted Daesh in north Baiji, killing or wounding many of them. [Mada]

 

The IAA destroyed a Daesh tunnel in the Makhoul Mountains area, killing 15 terrorists. [IWMC Report]

 

Shirqat

The IWMC says Coalition planes bombed a Daesh convoy heading from Shirqat towards Makhoul, destroying 13 vehicles and killing many terrorists. [Mada]

 

Samarra

The IWMC says the IAF destroyed a Daesh vehicle bomb in the Albu Ali village west of Samarra. [AIN]

 

Daesh says it shelled an Iraqi Army barracks west of Samarra, killing or wounding many soldiers. [JustPaste]

 

Daesh says it destroyed an Iraqi Humvee near the Samarra Dam. Daesh also says it shelled Iraqi forces near the Dam with mortars and Katyushas, and that one of its snipers killed an Iraqi soldier in the same area. [JustPaste] [JustPaste]

 

A security source says Saraya Al-Salam stopped a Daesh attack on the Khuzaimi area west of Samarra. [Mawazin]

 

Elsewhere in Salahuddin

The Sistani rep in Kerbala says all Iraqi groups should unite in the war against Daesh and what happened in Tuz was dangerous and should be avoided. He also says people shouldn’t use the current situation to “force a reality on the ground.” [Sumaria]

DaeshDaily comment. This is an obvious reference to the Kurds and their territorial claims of recent days.

 

BAGHDAD

Six people were killed and 18 wounded in a double explosion on a Shia mosque in South Al-Rashid in south Baghdad. An IED exploded in the mosque area targeting worshipers during the Friday prayers; then a suicide bomber detonated himself when security officers prevented him from attacking the medical crew and security forces who came to the mosque after the first explosion. Prime Minister Abadi ordered honors for the three security men killed in preventing the suicide bombers from causing more casualties in the mosque, and promoted them posthumously to lieutenant. [Sumaria]

 

Daesh claimed responsibility for the attack in Rashid and says it was carried out by one of its Iraqi terrorists. [Dump]

 

Daesh publishes a video “will” of its Iraqi suicide terrorist who blew himself up in a Shia religious gathering in Shaab in north Baghdad three weeks ago. [Archive]

 

The Baghdad Operations Commander says Iraqi forces confiscated a box filled with booby-trapped children’s toys in Rashidiya in north Baghdad (photos). An Iraqi Intelligence Service source says the toys were prepared to give to children who accompany their families during the walks to Kerbala in the Arba’in ceremonies. Thousands of people demonstrated in Baghdad demanding reforms. Activists from Kerbala and Wasit moved their demonstrations to Baghdad, while Muthanna activists decided to postpone theirs until after the Arba’in ceremony. Mowaffak Al-Rubaie, the former national security director, says many Daesh supporters who were in sleeper cells in Falluja and Mosul and went to Turkey are returning to Iraq. (Many were presumably seeking asylum in other countries.) He says the Iraqi government is facilitating the return of immigrants and asylum seekers to the country and some terrorists are using this to come back without proper documentation. He warns that the security situation in Baghdad and other governorates will deteriorate even more. [Sumaria]

 

The IAF conducted 4 sorties and the IAA 59.

Coalition planes conducted 14 sorties on Ramadi, Falluja, Tal Afar and Mosul, killing many terrorists and destroying five vehicles, including a vehicle bomb, and destroying 3 hideouts, 14 locations and two weapons storehouses. [IWMC Report]

 

Baghdad Operations Command troops conducted a search campaign in several areas in south Baghdad and found a huge quantity of C4 explosives. [BOC Facebook Page]

 

An Iraqi Army 60th Brigade unit killed two terrorists and wounded three and destroyed a hideout in the Ubaid area in southwest Baghdad. [BOC Facebook Page]

 

A Rapid Intervention unit killed two terrorists in the Harariyat area in west Baghdad. [BOC Facebook Page]

 

A member of the Security Committee in Baghdad GC says four Kurdish battalions that are part of the presidential guard force responsible for protecting the President and the government compound, were deployed in several areas of south Baghdad to cover for the shortage of forces after some units were deployed to the battlefield. According to security sources:

  • Unknown armed men shot at the house of an MoI general on Palestine Street in east Baghdad without any casualties. [Ghad]
  • An IED exploded in Karrada in Baghdad center, wounding a civilian. [Ghad]
  • An IED exploded in a commercial area in Zafaraniya in southeast Baghdad, killing a civilian and wounding eight. [Mada]
  • Unknown armed men threw a hand grenade at a checkpoint in Albu Aitha in south Baghdad, killing two Sahwa fighters and wounding one. [Maalomah]
  • An IED exploded near a car wash in Saidiya in southwest Baghdad, killing a civilian and wounding five. [Mada]
  • An IED exploded near a wholesale market in Ameriya in west Baghdad, killing two civilians and wounding 4. [Mada]
  • An IED exploded in Abu Ghraib in west Baghdad, killing three civilians and wounding five. [Gharbiya]

 

DIYALA

A CoR member from Diyala says there are still 15,000 displaced people who haven’t returned to their houses in Diyala. [Zaman]

 

Baquba

Hundreds of people demonstrated in Al-Khalis west of Baquba, objecting to the MoD’s decision to move the emergency brigade from the city, and say this move will endanger the city. They also demanded compensation for the victims of the explosion in Al-Khalis market and punishment of the five terrorists who admitted their role in it. Muqdadiya/Abu Saida

A security source says unknown armed men shot and wounded an Iraqi soldier at a military post in the Mukhaisa village orchards. [Sumaria]

 

The Chairman of the security committee in Abu Saida says many Iraqi soldiers were killed recently in the area and asks Dijla Operations Command to conduct security operations to clear the orchards. [Zaman]

 

Elsewhere in Diyala

Daesh says its terrorists sneaked into an Iraqi Army barracks in Balad Ruz east of Baquba and planted an IED there, then detonated it, killing or wounding many soldiers. [JustPaste]

 

KIRKUK

The IWMC says the IAF destroyed several Daesh oil tankers in Riyadh in Hawija. [AIN]

NINEWA

Mosul

A medical source says 11 workers were killed in an errant Coalition airstrike that landed on a dairy in east Mosul yesterday. He says the bombs targeted a nearby Daesh car bomb factory. [IraqPress]

 

A Ninewa Police general says unknown armed men threw a hand grenade on a Daesh caravan in the Jawsaq area in south Mosul, killing four terrorists. He also says unknown armed men shot and killed a Daesh member in Hay Al-Zuhour in east Mosul. [Erem]

 

Northwest in Ninewa

The IWMC says Coalition planes bombed Daesh in the Qubuk and Atemarat villages in Tal Afar District, destroying seven vehicles and killing many terrorists. [Mada]

 

Daesh says it attacked a Peshmerga barracks in Haloum village in Tal Afar District, killing 13 Kurdish fighters before burning the barracks down. [Dump]

 

Makhmur

The IWMC says Coalition planes bombed four Daesh houses in the Kubaiba village northwest of Makhmur, killing fifty Daesh members including the military commander of the area. [Mada]

 

Other Governorates  

SOUTHERN IRAQ

Basra. The PMF commission in Basra says 750 PMF fighters from Basra have been killed so far in addition to 250 from the army and the police. [Sumaria]

DaeshDaily comment. The numbers of casualties seem very high even for a big city like Basra. The fact that the PMFs lost three times more people than army and police suggests that PMF fighters may need more training before being sent to the battlefield.  

 

Babel. Babel Operations Command troops arrested a Daesh group and seized 3 IEDs in Husseiniya near Musayyib. [IWMC Report]

 

REPORTS FROM TURKEY

 

Turkish airplanes bomb PKK locations in Iraq’s Qandil Mountains, reportedly with no human casualties. [PUKMedia]

 

REPORTS FROM SYRIA

 

Northeast

A local activist says the Turkish Army targeted several locations in Tal Abyad with heavy machine guns between Thursday evening and Friday morning without causing human casualties. [BasNews]

 

Local sources say the PYD Asayesh broke up a demonstration in Hasaka organized by the Kurdish National Council in Syria, and assaulted demonstrators. The demonstrators were objecting to PYD policies. [BasNews]

 

Six YPG fighters who were taken to Turkey for medical treatment, but handed over by Turkish authorities to the pro-Turkey Ahrar Al-Sham opposition group, were released today as part of a prisoner exchange deal between the YPG and several Syrian armed groups. [Hawar] [Welati]

 

Northwest

Coalition airplanes bombed Daesh in Mare’, Manbij and Raqqa last night. [Qasioun]

 

Daesh says one of its Syrian suicide terrorists attacked Syrian troops in a village near the Kowaires airbase, killing or wounding many soldiers and damaging a tank (photos). [JustPaste]

 

Jabha Shamiya fighters capture the Dalha village in Aleppo’s northern countryside from Daesh. [Qasioun] A Jabha Shamiya commander says his troops killed or wounded 15 Daesh fighters and destroyed five of its buildings in Tal Maled village. [ARA]

Russian planes launched airstrikes on Mahin and Huwwarin, supporting the Syrian Army efforts in the area. [Qasioun]

Yemen. Daesh says its terrorists launched a massive attack on three Yemeni Army barracks in Hadhramaut, killing many soldiers; then when the Army reinforcements came, a Yemeni suicide terrorist detonated his vehicle bomb on them, killing more soldiers. Daesh says around 50 soldiers were killed in the attack. [Dump]

A Yemeni medical source says 17 soldiers were killed and 20 wounded in the attack. Dozens of historic houses in the area were damaged according to local sources. [Anadolu]

Lebanon.  The Lebanese Army arrests 3 men and confiscates their truck and 2 kg of explosives at the entrance of a Palestinian refugee camp in south Lebanon. [Qasioun]

 

Egypt.  Hundreds of people receive the body of Saleh Al-Jibali, an Egyptian who was killed in the Paris attacks. [Youm7]

 

Al-Azhar Observatory issues a report about Daesh and how it recruits young people in western countries. [Youm7]

 

Egyptian security forces conduct a search campaign in southern Arish and Sheikh Zuweid and arrest 42 suspects and destroy several hideouts in addition to two IEDs. [Youm7]

 

Libya.   A Libyan journalist says Daesh’s Friday speech in Sirte urged terrorists to attack oil establishments in Libya. [AfriGate]

 

Tunisia. Tunisian authorities arrest three terrorists coming from Libya. One of the terrorists participated in the attempted attack on the American Embassy in Tunisia. [AfriGate]
