DaeshDaily comment.​​ As Daesh has lost ground in Ninewa, there has been a profusion of stories like the three above. These are somewhere between untrue and exaggerated, but there is no practical way to determine what the exact truth is.

DaeshDaily comment.​​ This is all good news, but the​​ implications are​​ not so good. How could Daesh build up such a large operation in a province supposedly liberated long ago?​​ ​​ 

 

Eastern Salahuddin (Al-Daur, Tooz)

A security source says bodies of lost​​ CTS​​ soldiers and their civilian guide were found near Al-Daur in Salahuddin. The bodies were killed by unidentified gunmen and bodies were molested in ways​​ that​​ suggest Daesh imprints. The group was lost 48 hours ago.​​ [Ghad]​​

Fox News says Daesh is using ammunition manufactured in Germany back in 1935 during World War II. It says this revelation should help to reveal Daesh supply sources. It also says Daesh manufactured a huge machine to dig tunnels—a machine captured by the Iraqi army at the end of last year. [Sumaria]

Human conditions in Mosul

REPORTS FROM TURKEY

 

Turkey President Erdogan met with KRG Prime Minster Nechirvan Barzani in Ankara​​ according to a statement from the KRG. It says Erdogan expressed his condolences for the Peshmerga fighters who were killed in the Turkish airstrikes on Sinjar, and offered to have the wounded fighters treated in Turkey. [Rudaw]​​ ​​ 

A Turkish newspaper says Erdogan and Barzani discussed a joint military operation in Sinjar to separate PKK positions between Sinjar and Qandil Mountains​​ and between Sinjar and Syria. [SotKurdistan]​​ 

 

Turkey President Erdogan says his country would not allow formation of a secessionist entity on its border with Syria nor any division of Syria. Speaking before the energy NATO summit, he also says that a lot of mortar shells are being fired from​​ the​​ Syrian border on Turkish army units. News reports​​ describe a​​ Turkish army mobilization​​ in Amuda near Hasaka and other border areas while Turkish recon planes are intensifying sorties along the border areas. Erdogan again criticized US support​​ for​​ SDF forces in Syria in Raqqa liberation operation.​​ [Dorar]

 

The​​ Turkish​​ President’s​​ spokesman says his country​​ presented​​ clear suggestions to the US regarding confronting Daesh,​​ and​​ these will be discussed during Erdogan’s​​ expected visit to​​ Washington. He says Turkey​​ will also discuss​​ the​​ US position towards Fethullah Gulen,​​ the​​ Turkish politician opposed​​ to Erdogan​​ who lives​​ in the US,​​ and US support to SDF in Syria.​​ [Dorar]

The Coalition says it conducted 17 airstrikes on Daesh targets in Syria, in Tabaqa (8), Raqqa (2), Deir Ez-Zor (5), and Albu Kamal (2). [InherentResolve]

 

Northeast (Hasaka, Raqqa)

Hasaka

US military units moved to Al-Darbasiya in Hasaka near the Turkey border alongside YPG military positions. [SotKurdistan]​​ 

A YPG commander says the Coalition will establish 3 military posts in north Syria to prevent any Turkish attacks. [SotKurdistan]​​ 

 

Raqqa

Opposition sources say Turkish units removed the border barbed wire near Tal Abyadh north of Raqqa as a​​ preparation for​​ moving into Syria. They also say YPG evacuated its centers near the border in anticipation of a Turkish attack.​​ [Qasioun]

 

West of Raqqa

SDF says it fully liberated​​ the​​ Nababla, Wahab, and Zahra neighborhoods in Tabaqa city killing 32 Daesh combatants. SDF found two Daesh tunnels in liberated areas.​​ [PUKMedia]​​ 

 

SOHR says the fighting between SDF and Coalition and Daesh is concentrated on the western side of Tabaqa city, with mutual rocket and artillery shelling that has caused casualties​​ on both sides.​​ [SyriaHR]

A source close to the YPG says the heavy Coalition airstrikes indicate that the Coalition and the YPG have reached an agreement to continue the military operations in Tabaqa in the wake of the Turkish attacks. [SotKurdistan]​​ 

 

SDF says Coalition warplanes attacked Daesh units gathering in Maskana to attack Tabaqa, killing 40 of them, and destroying 10 armored vehicles.​​ [Hawar]

YPG says it killed 17 Turkish soldiers and destroyed an armored vehicle while blocking a Turkish attack on two subdistricts near Afrin. [ROJ]

 

YPG says Turkish army shelled Hammam village in Afrin with artillery, saying that at least 3 shells hit residential areas. [Hawar]

Turkish army artillery bombed and stopped the broadcasting of Afrin Radio station in Khalil village in Afrin, in a shelling that covered three other subdistricts says. [Hawar]

 

SDF units​​ destroyed a multiple rocket launcher of​​ a​​ Turkey-allied​​ opposition unit in​​ Azaz. Opposition groups​​ shelled two Kurdish villages with mortars believed​​ by the Kurds​​ to contain chemical materials. YPG says samples of the warheads will be checked for chemical substances. After​​ Syria’s​​ recapture​​ of the​​ Al-Sha’er oil field east of Homs, government planes are attacking Arch oil field east of Homs held by Daesh as a step towards capturing it. Fighting was also reported between Daesh and government forces west of Palmyra.​​ [Qasioun]

 

Government forces engaged Daesh combatants who are trying to counterattack in​​ Al-Sukkari south of Palmyra. No​​ further details​​ are​​ available.​​ [Qasioun]

East (Deir Ez-Zor)

Syrian government says its army attacked Daesh in seven locations towards Maamel and Tharda in Deir Ez-Zor,​​ killing tens of combatants and destroying large quantities of weapons. [SyriaNow]

 

Syrian government says its army killed 30 Daesh combatants in Maqaber and 137th​​ brigade areas near Deir Ez-Zor. [SyriaNow]

South (Rif Damashq, Suwayda, Daraa, etc.)

The opposition Jaish Al-Islam​​ faction​​ accused Tahrir Al-Sham and Failaq Al-Rahman factions of blocking its advance to assist opposition units in Arbin east of Damascus. [Qasioun]

SOHR says the​​ casualties of the fighting between opposition factions east of Damascus is 38 including 15 from Jaish Al-Islam, including some leading figures. [SyriaHR]

Egypt

Pope Francis, on a trip to Egypt, visited a church where 29 people died in a suicide bombing in December. He attended a service at St Peter and Paul church in the capital Cairo with Coptic Christian leader Pope Tawadros II.

Just three weeks ago, suicide bombers struck two other Coptic churches, killing a further 45 people.

Pope Francis had earlier urged an end to the funding of groups that promote violence, an act which cannot be committed in the name of God, he said.

During a speech at​​ Al-Azhar University, a​​ leading​​ center of Sunni Islamic learning​​ and committed​​ to improve​​ Christian-Muslim dialogue, the pontiff said religious leaders were “duty-bound” to unmask such violence. [BBC]​​

Local source says ABM terrorists burned down the house of a member of​​ the​​ Al-Tarabin tribe in Rafah. Sweden

Police say the death toll from the Stockholm truck attack rose to five on Friday after a 60-year-old Swedish woman succumbed to her injuries.​​ Police said the woman was being treated at a hospital in southern Sweden and died on Friday morning.

An Uzbek suspect has confessed to using a stolen truck to mow down pedestrians on a busy shopping street in central Stockholm on April 7 in a rampage similar to attacks in Nice, Berlin and London.
