The Coalition spokesman, Air Force Col. John Dorrian, says Turkey gave Coalition forces less than an hour’s notice before launching airstrikes on Kurdish troops in Syria this week, potentially putting American forces in the region at risk. He says Turkey’s warning to the Coalition’s air operations center included a large area and wasn’t specific enough about timing and location to ensure the safety of the American forces. He says U.S. troops were about six miles, or 10 km, from the strikes. A senior U.S. official said it was about 20 minutes. The official was not authorized to discuss the details publicly, so spoke on condition of anonymity. [Star]

Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement describing the Turkish airstrikes as unacceptable. It also says Turkey disrespected the sovereignty of two countries and increased the tension in the region. [Sumaria]

Mosul liberation campaign

A military source says Iraqi units are now in control of over 75% of west Mosul after liberating Al-Tanak, Al-Thawra, Al-Sihha Al-Thaniya, and Al-Nasr. For the past 10 days there have been no vehicle bomb or suicide attacks, which is a sign of decline in Daesh capabilities. He says the new tactic of crossing through the areas and then doubling back to them worked in Al-Tanak. Only Zanjili and Shifa’ neighborhoods remain in order to surround the Grand Mosque from the north. He says for the first time CTS and IFP will be fighting alongside each other after meeting up near Zanjili. [Mada]

Commander of CTS says Iraqi forces are adopting the tactic of surrounding rather than directly attacking  neighborhoods where Daesh holds civilian hostages, so as to avoid civilian casualties. He says the surrounding and resulting siege would finally push Daesh combatants out of their positions. He also says that this does not mean that direct attacks on certain positions are not taking place. [Karemlash]

It also says Coalition planes targeted the retreating IFP troops with 4 airstrikes. [ICDNApril26]

DaeshDaily comment. This is likely the latest daily creative writing report telling us that Coalition airstrikes kill innocent civilians instead of Daesh. And here is a second probably made-up story.

Daesh says its snipers killed eight CTS and IFP soldiers in different areas in Mosul city. [DMNApril26]

DaeshDaily comment. This is another of the now daily reports from the Daesh creating writing department. Each of these sounds like a victory story, but the actual number of sniper deaths is likely much lower than Daesh’s claims, assuming there is any truth to the story.

IFP says it shot down a Daesh drone in old Mosul. [IraqPress]

PMF EODs are now clearing IEDs and mines planted by Daesh in the city. One vehicle bomb was destroyed while army helicopters destroyed a Daesh machine gunmounted truck. [Harbi]

PMF command says it liberated Haraj village north of Hatra and two other villages and captured the main road leading into the district. [Harbi]

PMF command says that in surrounding Hatra from all sides it captured several villages. It reported that a Daesh military official in Hatra nicknamed Abu Ali escaped to Syria. [Harbi]

The PMF Press says PMF units took control of the Hatra end of the main road between Hatra and Rawa. [Sumaria]

DaeshDaily comment. If true and Daesh traffic to Northwest Anbar is really blocked, this will also help Iraq to recover Northwest Anbar. All these Iraqi attacks in the desert, in Hatra, Baaj, and elsewhere, may be closing off the last land route for Daesh reinforcements and re-supplies.

MoD says IAF destroyed a Daesh position and two vehicles near Fawaz Hezam village south of Hatra. [Buratha]

PMF Press also claimed that PMFs have secured over 3,000 civilians escaping battle areas. [Sumaria]

In another report, it says 2,500 civilians, from Hatra and surrounding villages. [Ghad]

Demonstrations are set today in Kalar, far southern Suleimaniya, to condemn Turkish attacks on Karachok Mountain, Syria and on Sinjar yesterday. The PUK is organizing these demonstrations. Similar demonstrations took place in Suleimaniya and Rania in Suleimaniya province and Kifri and Khanaqin in Diyala. [ROJ]
