Former President Jalal Talabani met in Suleimaniya with Ahmed Al-Sadr, head of the Sadrist Current’s reform committee, and several other Sadrists leaders. The Sadrist delegation has been meeting with several Iraqi officials and politicians, including Prime Minister Abadi and Speaker Jubouri, to discuss the upcoming elections, the situation after Mosul liberation, and other Iraq issues. [Sumaria]

DaeshDaily comment. Muqtada has introduced his 31-year-old nephew as the leader of “reforms” in the Sadrist Current. Ahmed, whose father was assassinated in 1999 with his grandfather, has a master’s degree in politics from Beirut. Muqtada has lost many of his close aides, who either formed their own groups, were involved in corruption, or left the country, and is trying not to introduce a new face.

Hawija (Riyadh, Al-Zab, etc.)

AAH, a component of the PMF, demanded that the government order the liberation of Hawija immediately. A spokesman says Hawija is a constant threat to security in Salahuddin, Kirkuk, and all surrounding areas. He says this operation should have preceded the Mosul campaign. [Ghad]

DaeshDaily comment. We haven’t found much to agree with in the statements of the AAH, a radical and Iran-oriented militia, but the analysis here is right. It is because of Hawija that we still have so many problems in the surrounding provinces and districts. These problems will continue until the government decides to do something about Hawija. A lot of people have died waiting for this decision.

Kirkuk’s Governor says that there are no signs that liberation of Hawija is near, likewise stating the importance of liberating this city that threatens security in all the areas around it. He was speaking to the heads of service offices of the province. [ROJ]

The Hawija Tribal PMFs supervisor says Daesh executed eight young men in Hawija after accusing them of cooperating with Iraqi forces and helping families to escape Daesh controlled areas. [Sumaria]

DaeshDaily comment. This is an example of the comment above. People keep dying as Hawija waits for the government forces to come. As that day continues to be postponed, some of Iraq’s brave citizens continue to die.

Daesh says twenty-two people were killed and forty wounded, including women and children, by “American and Iraqi” bombing on residential areas in west Mosul. [A3maq]

DaeshDaily comment. This is today’s iteration of the now daily made-up story about how airstrikes only kill innocent civilians and (implicitly) don’t kill Daesh members.

North & northwest Mosul

Northwest Ninewa

Tal Afar

A DaeshDaily source says tens of families from Abu Maria, Al-Ashiq, and nearby villages east of Tal Afar, managed to escape toward Peshmerga forces in Aski Mosul. The source says Daesh might have lost control over these villages. However, another DaeshDaily source says Daesh executed many of the civilians before they could reach the Peshmerga positions.

IWMC says IAF killed 9 Daesh combatants and destroyed two vehicle bombs as they prepared to attack Tal Afar airport. IAF planes also destroyed a tunnel network and a basement containing weapons and an ammunition cache in the Khidhr Ilyas village area southwest of Tal Afar city. Waradana]

A PMF commander says PMFs are ready to liberate Tal Afar city whenever high command orders are issued. He says US and regional political pressure is delaying the Iraqi government decision to liberate the city, which is surrounded from three sides. [Maalomah]

DaeshDaily comment. It may be recalled that a decision was made before the Mosul campaign was launched that PMFs would not enter Tal Afar city, to avoid any sectarian incidents that would rebound against the central government. Otherwise, the PMFs could probably have taken the city by now, even without the help of other military forces. However, the main reason they are still waiting is likely that the west Mosul campaign is still dragging on.

Rudaw TV says Turkish planes launched more than 10 airstrikes on the YPG on Karachok Mountain. [Rudaw]

Daesh says twelve civilians were killed by a heavy “American” bombing on Baaj city. [A3maq]

DaeshDaily comment. Today’s second probably made-up story about errant airstrikes that kill innocent civilians instead of Daesh fighters. Reality is that Daesh has been taking a beating from airstrikes in Baaj, and has lost numerous leaders there.

Chairman of the Basra Provincial Council security committee says 1,400 men from Basra, security forces and PMF members, have been killed and more than 4,100 wounded in the war against Daesh so far. [Sumaria]

DaeshDaily comment. Read those numbers again. There is a brave and tragic story behind them.

Maysan police says two men on a motorcycle shot dead two civilians in Iskan village in Maysan.  [Sumaria]

Russia says it is ready to send more land forces to Syria should the government so request. Press sources way that Russia is concentrating on the western part of Syria, while the US is more interested in the eastern part. [Hawar]

DaeshDaily comment. This is basically because the US priority is on defeating Daesh, while Russia’s priority is propping up Assad, whose presumed constituency is primarily in western Syria.

SDF says thousands of IDPs escaping war and Daesh areas arrived from Raqqa areas through a safe route opened by SDF to Jab Al-Sha’er, northwest of Raqqa. It says around 10,000 more will be coming from Tishrin farm area in the coming days. [Hawar]

SDF say eight IDPs from Raqqa lost their lives following the sandstorm in Jab Al-Sha’er village. The spokeswoman of the IDP camp says asthma was the cause of death of these elderly IDPs, as no proper medicines are available in the camp. [Hawar]

Four other IDPs lost their lives due to the explosion of Daesh land mines, during their escape from war areas in Tabaqa towards SDF positions. [ARA]
