ANBAR

Ramadi

Iraqi forces liberated the Rumaila area, 20 km (12.5 miles) east of Ramadi, says Chairman of Khaldiya District Council, adding that many Daesh members were killed or wounded in the operation. [Mada]

Hit/Haditha

The Iraqi Army Seventh Division stopped a Daesh attack on Albu Hayat, killing five Daesh fighters and destroying a vehicle, the Jazeera Operations Commander says. [Sumaria]

SALAHUDDIN

Baiji

Daesh says it stopped an Iraqi forces attack on the Harariyat area, killing or wounding 40 soldiers. [JustPaste]

 

Shirqat

Reinforcements have arrived for Iraqi forces around Shirqat in preparation for a major assault on the Daesh-held city, aiming to cut it off from supply lines in Ninewa Governorate, an Iraqi Army Captain said. Another source said Daesh has deployed snipers on buildings in Shirqat in preparation for the anticipated attack (video). [Karemlash] [YouTube]

 

The Daesh organization in Shirqat has introduced optional fines as an alternative to corporal punishment for those it finds guilty of “minor” offenses, such as shaving of facial hair or improper clothing. While the typical punishment for such acts has been lashing, from now on those sentenced will reportedly have the option of paying a fine of $15 (in US dollars) for each whiplash in the sentence. BAGHDAD

A slate of Sunni tribal leaders has rejected the new Sunni coalition just established in Amman, saying it doesn’t represent them. Tribal leaders fighting Daesh are the true representatives of the Sunnis, they said. [Mada]

 

A federal court has rejected the legal challenge raised by former Iraqi Vice President Usama Al-Nujaifi against his dismissal and the abolition of his position. [Rudaw]

 

Iraqi security forces in south Baghdad captured six militants who were allegedly planning to target Shia faithful traveling from Baghdad to Kerbala in the upcoming pilgrimage, Baghdad Operations Command announced. [Sumaria]

 

A mortar shell fell on Arab Jabour in south Baghdad, killing a woman and two children and wounding six others. [Mada]

NINEWA

Sinjar

The Minister of Defense, Khalid Al-Ubaidi, traveled to Ninewa, where he visited several military sites in a preview of operations to liberate the Governorate from Daesh. While visiting Sinjar on Friday, the Minister affirmed the Iraqi government’s support for the Peshmerga in the area after the Kurdish forces’ successful recapture of the town. The Minister’s tour of Ninewa came after he traveled to Erbil and held talks with KRG President Massoud Barzani and KRG security officials. [Baghdadia] [Ghad]

 

Mosul

Coalition planes destroyed a Daesh convoy near Badoush, killing 13 Daesh members and wounding three, a Ninewa police source says. [BasNews]

SOUTHERN IRAQ

The representative of Grand Ayatollah Sistani in Kerbala has stated that PMF fighters should not vacate their positions around Iraq to travel to Kerbala during the upcoming Arba’in pilgrimage. [Ghad]

 

 REPORTS FROM TURKEY

 

The Editor-in-Chief of the Cumhuriyet newspaper, Can Dündar, and another journalist were both arrested on Thursday following the paper’s publication of a video purportedly showing Turkish intelligence involvement in shipments of weapons across the Syrian border destined for Daesh fighters. The video [YouTube] purports to show that Turkish intelligence agents were apprehended by Turkish border police while transporting the weapons. Turkish PM Erdogan reportedly threatened the Editor-in-Chief after publication of the video, saying he would “face consequences.”

Cumhuriyet was awarded the Reporters Without Borders Prize just last week for “independent and courageous journalism.” The arrests reportedly sparked protests as hundreds reportedly turned out to denounce the detention of the two journalists. [Cihan] [TodaysZaman] [QudsArabi]

REPORTS FROM SYRIA

 

Syrian opposition leaders have announced their opposition to the participation of the PYD in the upcoming meeting in Saudi Arabia. [Welati]

 

Northeast

A PYD official has denied recent reports that American forces have arrived in Kobane through the Murshid Pinar crossing, ostensibly to train the YPG militia. [Welati]

 

Northwest

Heavy clashes erupted between the Democratic Syria Forces and rival Sunni armed groups in rural areas north of Aleppo. Kurdish sources say Jabhat al-Nusra and Ahrar al-Sham are trying to stop the DSF from advancing in the area. [Qasioun]  [Welati]

 

Weapons from Turkey have been delivered to Syrian armed groups near Aleppo in smaller trucks, local sources say, explained as a change in strategy on the part of Turkish weapons suppliers after Russian jets reportedly targeted larger trucks apparently carrying weapons to fighters in Syria. Egypt.  Daesh publishes photos of blowing up an Egyptian Army vehicle with an IED south of Rafah.  [JustPaste]

 

Libya.  Daesh has claimed responsibility for a series of killings of security and military leaders in Ajdabiya, local media sources say, after committing the tenth such assassination this week. [AfriGate] [JustPaste]

 

Tunisia.  Following this week’s deadly bus attack in Tunisia that killed 12 people, the country’s Ministry of Interior has announced it conducted 367 raids, arresting 40 terrorism suspects and confiscating weapons and explosives. In addition the Ministry says that 92 individuals who had returned to Tunisia from Syria, Iraq, and Libya have been put under house arrest. [PUKMedia]

 

A debate has erupted this week between the Tunisian MoI and the country’s judiciary since it became known that the suicide attacker in the recent bus bombing had been arrested previously but was ordered released by the Tunisian courts, citing lack of evidence. [AfriGate]

 

The Tunisian MoI has reportedly released further information on the terrorist cell captured in Sousse on November 8. Twenty-six takfiris including one woman were initially detained in that roundup. Calling themselves the “Furqan Battalion,” the group was allegedly planning to conduct major attacks in Tunisia. The Tunisian MoI announced it arrested five more members of the same cell yesterday. Nigeria.  A suicide bomber detonated himself inside a Shia gathering in Kano state, killing 21 people. A Daesh Twitter account claims responsibility for the attack. [IslamMemo] [Twitter]

 

Bangladesh. Daesh said on Thursday its terrorists shot at a Shia mosque in Borga in northern Bangladesh, killing a civilian and wounding three. [A3maq]
