NATIONAL NEWS

The Security Committee of Baghdad Provincial Council calls for involvement of PMFs in securing Baghdad’s perimeter. It says that such areas are around 20 km wide surrounding the capital, making it difficult for the Baghdad Operations Command (BOC) to control Baghdad’s security by itself. [Sumaria]

The BOC says all capital areas are secured.

A BOC spokesman says that army units are now heading to Nahrawan, responding to claims that the area is left without security protection. [Sumaria]

 

Péter Szijjártó, Hungary’s Foreign Minister, says his country is sending more weapons to Iraq and is training 15 Iraqi army officers in Hungary on EOD operations. He added that Hungary would also train Iraqi police units and receive Iraqi wounded military personnel in its hospitals. [Maalomah]

A security source in Hawija says Daesh guesthouses in Hawija, Rashad, and other areas are run by ex-Baath party local leaders. He says families have to show allegiance by providing a “can of wheat” to Daesh. [Mada]

A security source in Mosul says Daesh launched several mortar shells on the neighborhoods of Al-Zahra, Aden, Samah, and Tahrir in east Mosul killing six and wounding over thirty civilians. [Mada]

A security source in Mosul says Daesh snipers shot two civilians to death as they were leaving Hay Al-Zahra in east Mosul.  [Maalomah]

 

The CTS says it liberated 80 residential buildings in the Al-Karama complex in Hay Al-Khadra in east Mosul. [Maalomah]

 

CTS says it is clearing the Ikha’ neighborhood of IEDs and war remnants, while other CTS units move on to Al-Tamim and Al-Nour neighborhoods. [Mada]

DaeshDaily comment. This report would seem to be contradicted by all the other stories showing Daesh is still fighting hard in east Mosul. However, many Daesh terrorists have left Mosul.

 

Daesh issues infographics about the results of the 5th week of Ninewa battles. Daesh says it killed 487 government and Peshmerga soldiers during the fifth week of Ninewa operations. It also says it destroyed or hit over 116 armored vehicles and initiated 20 suicide attacks, and shot down an American drone. [A3maq]

 

The IWMC says Ziyad Kharoufa, the Daesh “Media Minister”, was killed by an IAF airstrike in west Mosul. [Mada]

Al-Azhar in Cairo, considered an authoritative Islamic source, issued a statement saying the killing of the Daesh media minister in Ninewa is a victory for Iraqi forces. It also says that Daesh is trying to justify its recent defeats in Iraq by giving false examples from Islamic history. [Annabaa]

Military developments within Mosul

A spokesman of the Ninewa Guards (Nujaifi militia) says eight of its men were killed and sixteen wounded in an attack by Daesh with vehicle bombs, snipers, and suicide attackers that came out of one of the tunnels in the commercial exchange area north of Mosul. Daesh captured 3 of the Ninewa Guards and one soldier of the 16th army division as prisoners. [Ghad]

Deputy PMF commander, Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, says the fourth stage of west of Mosul military campaign is almost over. He says Mosul is cut off from all sides, except for the road between Mosul and Tal Afar, which is an “internal issue” and it “will be over soon”. [Sumaria]

Asayesh (Kurdish security) says assassination of cleric Hoshyar Ismail of the Kurdistan Islamic Movement in Erbil is an attempt to destabilize security in the region. Investigations are underway to identify the assassins. The cleric was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in front of his house in Erbil this morning. [Sumaria]

Hasaka

An informed source says 3 Daesh terrorists were killed in Markada south of Hasaka. It is unknown how they were killed. [ARA]

 

Raqqa

Coalition warplanes killed over 50 Daesh terrorists in attacks on a training camp near Raqqa, say local activists. The camp, called Tilul Al-Suq, is located in the Sukhnah area. [Dorar]

Three civilians were killed and two wounded by Turkey-backed opposition groups’ shelling on Sheikh Maqsoud. [Hawar]

 

Syria’s Ambassador to Moscow says that victory in Aleppo is imminent, and that a decision has been made to normalize the situation in the city afterwards. [Hawar]

 

Three civilians were killed and several others wounded by opposition shelling of the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood. The shelling came from the Bustan Al-Basha and Halak areas using locally made projectiles. [Hawar]

 

SDF forces are attempting to recover the Bustan Al-Basha area, controlled by opposition units, following the continued shelling of Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood of Aleppo from that area. Sheikh Maqsoud is mostly Kurdish. [ARA]

Opposition units supported by Turkey repelled a wide-scale Daesh attack with vehicle bombs and rockets on the village of Kafira, northwest of Al-Bab city. Daesh forces heading from Tadif lost 4 fighters in the battle, in which Turkish warplanes bombed the attacking units and the road between Tadif and Kafira. [ARA]
