REPORTS FROM IRAQ

NATIONAL NEWS

Responding to Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani’s statement that Peshmerga will not withdraw from areas they liberate, Prime Minister Abadi’s office issued a statement stating that the agreement with the Kurdish side was clear in saying they would withdraw from all areas liberated during the current Ninewa operations. As for areas lost and recovered during the past government’s era, the constitutional provisions will apply. [ROJ]

The KRG Presidency Office issued a statement saying that the translation of Barzani’s speech was not accurate and Barzani is committed to the deal regarding Peshmerga’s presence in the liberated area. [BasNews]

DaeshDaily comment. In Iraq, one of the oldest “dodges” for evading accountability for dubious statements is to blame the translator.

In response to a PMF leader’s statement that his militia is heading for Syria after defeating Daesh in Iraq, at the Syrian government’s request, the Prime Minister’s office said through its spokesman Saad Al-Hadithi that Iraq does not interfere in other countries’ internal affairs. [Arabi21]

Several Shia politicians say they oppose some PMF commanders’ statements about the PMFs participating in the war in Syria. [Mada]

The Ministry of Displacement and Migration says it has less than $30,000 dollars in its budget for displaced families. [Sumaria]

DaeshDaily comment. This is bad news but otherwise mostly another indication that the bill for displaced families and many other things is being paid for by the Coalition countries and the UN.

The Coalition says it conducted 11 airstrikes in Iraq, near Mosul (3), Sinjar (1), and Sultan Abdullah (1); and Hawija (2), Haditha (1), and Rawa (3). [InherentResolve]

ANBAR

Falluja

The Chairman of the Ameriyat Al-Falluja Subdistrict Council says 21 people were killed and 42 wounded by a suicide attack with a car bomb that targeted a wedding in Ameriyat Al-Falluja. [Mada]

Daesh says it killed more than thirty Sahwa fighters and wounded “tens” by detonating a parked car bomb in Ameriyat Al-Falluja. [A3maq]

DaeshDaily comment. For Daesh, any Sunni who doesn’t join it is a “Sahwa fighter,” whether a man, a woman or a child. Whatever the cover story, it’s a mass murder of civilians. These incidents show over and over that Daesh fighters are basically a band of killers, notwithstanding the religious veneer provided by their tireless media types.

A more immediate question concerns security in Falluja District. For some time after the government’s victory there, there were no deadly incidents reported from Falluja. Efforts have been made to screen out Daesh fighters among the returnees, but incidents like this will raise fears that Daesh is back in Falluja.

The Anbar Police Chief says security units captured Harith Al-Jubouri, a Daesh terrorist from Dora in Baghdad, who planned Tuesday’s suicide attacks in Falluja city, at a checkpoint in Ramadi. A Canadian commander told CBC News that Canadian Special Forces who are training the Peshmerga had destroyed 3 Daesh vehicle bombs using anti-armored vehicle missiles because the Peshmerga didn’t have such missiles. Daesh also says it destroyed a T72 tank with a missile. [Isdarat]

DaeshDaily comment. Notice the subtle appeal to sectarian hatred in calling the Iraqi units “PMFs”. The IFP military units are responsible for Hammam Al-Alil, while most PMFs are fighting to the west, now in Tal Afar. It’s the same dreary propaganda theme that Daesh is the protector of Sunnis, attacking the Shia on their behalf. By now, there can’t be too many people in Mosul who consider Daesh its protector.
