Coalition bombs keep falling on Mosul.

Yazidi spokesmen resist KRG territorial claim on Sinjar.

DaeshDaily cross-reference: A very interesting article by Graeme Wood, an expert on Daesh ideology, about the Daesh attacks in France. [Politico]

ANBAR

The Anti-Terrorism Service says its troops managed to cross the Euphrates towards Ramadi city after four days of heavy bombing support. [Qurtas]

DaeshDaily comment. Control of the Kilo 5 area, just three miles from downtown Ramadi, is potentially critical to the military outcome in Ramadi.

Daesh publishes photos of an attack on Iraqi forces “near” Albu Hayat. [JustPaste]

DaeshDaily comment. Daesh has never admitted to losing Albu Hayat. Its response to defeats is often to publish photos from that or some other battle, presumably to create the impression that they actually won.

He made these remarks at a press conference with MPs from other southern provinces. [Baghdadia] [Sumaria]

Prime Minister Abadi has ordered an investigation into violations against demonstrators by security forces. Dozens of activists had gathered Tuesday in central Baghdad’s Tahrir Square demanding reforms and supporting the PM’s reform agenda when they were attacked by Iraqi security forces. “We think they are of the previous era who want to make problems for the current Prime Minister,” one protestor said, effectively alleging that elements of the security forces remain loyal to former PM Nouri Al-Maliki and seek to undermine Abadi’s leadership. [Mada]

President Masoum returns the National Card Law to the CoR and says they should reconsider Article 26, which he says violates the constitutional rights of non-Muslims in Iraq. [Etejah] The law declares that children of mixed marriages must follow the religion of the Muslim parent.

DaeshDaily comment. The President has it right, of course. The law is transparently unconstitutional, which, however, is not a deterrent to parliament members trying to use religion to further their political agendas.

The Al-Suqoor Intelligence Cell says it captured a Daesh cell of six members who were planning to attack Shia pilgrims in Dora in south Baghdad. A seventh member managed to flee before the raid. [Ghad]

DIYALA

Baquba

The MoI says the Diyala police arrested 50 armed men who, claiming to be PMFs, had captured 11 Diyala policemen in a checkpoint. [Mada]

DaeshDaily comment. We could not confirm from other sources that these were French planes.

A PMF source says the IAA destroyed a Daesh tanker carrying chlorine in Hawija that was intended for use against Iraqi forces in the Makhoul Mountains area. [Harbi]

NINEWA

Sinjar

The chairman of the “Commission for the Kurdistan Areas outside the KRG” has said that

the presence of “unofficial troops” in Sinjar will have negative effects on the stability of the region. He called for the withdrawal of the (unnamed) “unofficial” forces and for the Peshmerga to remain in Sinjar. [Sumaria]

DaeshDaily comment: The remarks are apparently a veiled reference to the YPG presence in Sinjar, and a backdoor KRG political status claim on Sinjar.

The hereditary Prince of the Yazidi community issues a statement congratulating the people of Sinjar for their liberation, and asked the authorities for justice for Daesh crimes. [BasNews]

The Yazidi Council in Sinjar issues a statement congratulating the Yazidi people for the liberation of their lands and thanking the YPG, the Coalition, the Iraqi government, the KRG, and Sistani for their support. [ROJ]

DaeshDaily comment. It’s not hard to see that the KRG spokesmen (including Barzani yesterday) consider that Sinjar is now destined to be part of Kurdistan whether Iraq likes it or not, whereas the Yazidis who constitute much of the Sinjar population are resisting their embrace and giving some of the credit to others who contributed to their liberation.

Two more mass graves of Yazidi men and women were found in Sinjar with more than 50 bodies in them. [BasNews]

The Peshmerga received 150 families who escaped from the Qabusiya village south of Sinjar, fearing that they would be used by Daesh as human shields in anticipated fighting in that area, a member of the Sinjar District Council says. [Sumaria]

Mosul

Northwest

Fifteen Syrian armed opposition groups in Idlib and Aleppo announce they want to join the Democratic Syria Forces. [Hawar]

DaeshDaily comment. “Airborne” implies a paratroop drop. We have no confirmation of that.
