Daesh media in Mosul have begun promoting the idea of a “Dabiq of Mosul,” having lost the Syrian city of Dabiq to opposition fighters last month, a local source said. Daesh has referred to Dabiq as the site of a future last-stand battle between its fighters and anti-Daesh forces but has begun to paint the battle for Mosul with the same apocalyptic importance, the source said. The media is especially targeting the Western half of the city, while Daesh is already accusing the eastern half, where it has lost numerous neighborhoods to advancing Iraqi troops, of betrayal. [SotAlIraq]

PMFs have launched the “third phase” of their campaign west of Mosul, according to PMF spokesman Ahmad Al-Asadi, who called for Ninewa residents to support the PMF operations. Tal Afar’s airfield is an important objective in the PMF campaign west of Mosul and once captured will be a “launching point” for further operations targeting Tal Afar city, Al-Asadi said. He said PMFs were targeting an area of some 14,000 square km (5,400 square miles), covering Ninewa’s rural Hatra and Baaj subdistricts, and Tal Afar District. [Sumaria] [Roj]

DaeshDaily comment. The PMFs, doing their own reporting, keep referring to Tal Afar as if they are already there. Reality is that they are still working to capture villages in the Mosul subdistrict that extends west of the Hammam Al-Alil and Shura subdistricts and borders Tal Afar District. However, Adaya is fairly close to the southeast border of Tal Afar, as are the three villages noted in today’s story. The PMFs seem to be moving more west than north, suggesting that they will try to approach Tal Afar city from the south. The lack of reports of people leaving captured villages suggests that in this area at least, Iraq is implementing its strategy of limiting the number of IDPs by consolidating its hold on each village before moving on to the next.

Giacomo Stucchi, a Senator who chairs the parliamentary committee that oversees Italy’s secret services, said Italian intelligence had played a key role in tracking down a Daesh terrorist known as Abu Nassim, a Tunisian national who was until recently reported to be leading a group of Daesh fighters around the port of Sabratha in Libya. Abu Nassim lived in Italy for most of his 20s. He subsequently fought in Afghanistan and Syria before reportedly moving to Libya in 2014.

An explosion at a remote Sufi Muslim shrine in the Pakistani region of Baluchistan has killed 52 people and injured more than a hundred, officials say. Emergency services struggled to reach the Shah Noorani shrine in Kuzdar. [BBC]

DaeshDaily comment. The shrine is actually a Sunni shrine, but Daesh needs to tell its bloodthirsty followers and donors it is killing Shia. In any case, within Wahhabism, all shrines should be destroyed and all people who visit them are infidels.
