‌ Grand Ayatollah Sistani’s office issued a statement refuting media reports about taking a political stance on nominating political figures for government positions, or even meeting with any politicians. However, it also said the marjiya is watching the events in Iraqi closely and is feeling sadness for what’s happening to the country, criticizing the politicians who are acting in their own interest. President Masoum says holding a COR session is of high priority, requesting the political parties do everything in their ability to make this happen. [Sumaria]

 

Ammar Al-Hakim, the leader of the ISCI, says he refuses to accept the “kidnapping” of the COR by sit-in MPs or by uncontrolled demonstrators. He says there is an organized campaign to “break the dignity” of the CoR and warned that there are politicians who are ready to burn Iraq. [Sumaria]

 

A leader of the Sadrist Al-Ahrar CoR block says Al-Ahrar is forming a non-partisan and non-sectarian bloc to lead Iraq out of this difficult crisis. Prime Minister Abadi visited the Joint Operations Command and met with military and security leaders to discuss Falluja liberation operations and the plan to liberate Mosul, according to a statement from his office. Abadi also says the battle against Daesh is the most important element in Iraq’s stability, asking everyone to put aside their differences and support Iraqi forces in the battle. [Sumaria]

 

Britain is poised to send more troops to Iraq to battle (Daesh), UK Defense Secretary Michael Fallon announced. Ammunition will also be given to the Kurdish Peshmerga after fighters complained they had no bullets for the machine guns gifted by the UK.

This came as Mr. Fallon headed to Germany to meet with his international counterparts. Iraqi forces have Daesh on the “back foot” and the jihadi organization is losing territory, Mr. Fallon said. The UK Government is ready to offer fresh support, which is likely to mean extra troops, to “intensify” the operations. A tribal PMF commander says Iraqi forces found a Daesh document in one of Daesh’s guesthouses in the Suhaila area, 15 km (9 miles) from Hit. He says the document is a letter from the Daesh leader, Awwad Baghdadi, and consists of an account of Daesh losses in Iraq as well as a request for his troops to retreat. Mosul

Australia’s most wanted terrorist, Neil Prakash, the (Daesh) operative behind a string of failed Australian terror plots, has been killed in a US military air strike in Iraq. He inspired plots to wreak havoc in Australia and encouraged others to fight with the murderous (Daesh).

His death was part of a series of targeted assassinations that also killed Australian woman Shadi Jabar, the sister of Parramatta shooter Farhad Jabar, The Australian reports. US military officials have told the Australian government that Prakash and Jabar were killed in separate air strikes.

Prakash, the most senior Australian fighting with (Daesh), was killed last Friday along with about a dozen fighters in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul. [News] [Maalomah]

Nineveh Plain

The U.S. Navy SEAL killed by direct fire during a major Daesh attack in Iraq was identified Tuesday as Charlie Keating IV, a Phoenix high school graduate. “Our state and nation are in mourning today over the loss of a U.S. serviceman — and one of America’s finest,” Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey said in a statement.

Coalition spokesman Col. Steve Warren said that the clash between Daesh and the Kurdish Peshmerga forces the advisers were assisting was “a big fight, one of the largest we’ve seen recently.”

Keating’s death is the third American combat loss since the U.S. redeployed forces to Iraq in the summer of 2014 to advise local forces and conduct Special Operations missions. The 31-year-old Special Warfare Operator 1st Class was on his third tour in Iraq. [NBC]

 

The General Peshmerga Command says more than 100 Daesh terrorists were killed and 42 military vehicles were destroyed in the Daesh attack on Tesgofa yesterday. The KRG Prime Minister, Nechirvan Barzani, issued a statement after meeting the UN rep in Iraq, saying regardless of the problems between Baghdad and Erbil, the KRG thinks it’s not in the best interest of Iraq or the region to have a political, administrative, or security vacuum. He also says the KRG will continue to support the current Iraqi government. [Sumaria]

 

Former KRG Prime Minister Barham Salih said, after a meeting with the Iranian Ambassador, that “what was established in 2003 is coming to an end. Iraq is entering into a new stage and the Kurds will play an important role in that stage. The Deputy Chairman of Ninewa PC says the federal government rejected the council’s request to open more training camps for volunteers from Ninewa. He asked the government to keep its promises and arm the tribal volunteers in order to liberate Mosul. [BasNews]

Muthanna

The Muthanna provincial council passed a resolution to fire the directors of the intelligence service, military intelligence, and national security in the governorate after the double car bomb attack on Sunday. [Sumaria]

A Turkish newspaper says Turkish military commanders say they provided American warplanes with the locations of Daesh in Syria, but the Americans did not hit the targets. They say the Americans’ goal was to present the Turkey-backed Syrian opposition group as “weak”, and to strengthen the perception of PYD positions. [Dorar]

Daesh executed three military servicemen in Sirte, one from Benghazi and one from Derna. Local sources say Daesh put sand barriers and barbed wires at city entrances west and south of Sirte. [Libya]
