NATIONAL NEWS

Prime Minister Abadi’s office issued a statement saying that a “small group” wants to commit “serious escalation” in Baghdad on Friday, and that the Prime Minister issued orders to security to do its job and prevent chaos. [Mada]

Prime Minister Abadi issued a statement after visiting the Falluja Operations Command headquarters, asking the demonstrators to postpone the demonstrations and hold them soon in Falluja after it is liberated. [Mada]

Baghdad Operations Command issued a statement saying citizens should not have “gatherings” without prior approvals. [Mada]

 

The demonstrations coordination committee issued a statement saying the Friday demonstrations were postponed until further notice in order to prevent some political parties and the government from “mixing the cards.” It also stressed the importance of supporting Iraqi forces in the war on terrorism. However, a member of the committee says the demonstrations will happen in Tahrir Square but will not cross the bridge to the Green Zone, and will aim at supporting Iraqi forces in the war against terrorism. Speaker Jubouri met in his office with the Saudi Ambassador to Iraq, according to a statement from Jubouri’s office. The Speaker says the support of Arab countries, especially Saudi Arabia, will help Iraqi in its war on terrorism. The Ambassador says Saudi Arabia is standing by Iraqi against terrorism and will provide more humanitarian aid. [Mada]

DaeshDaily comment. Saudi Arabia is trying to improve ties with Iraq and saying some of the right things. However, Iraq would need less Saudi help if it stopped its religious and media organizations from fueling sectarian tensions (for which there are examples in stories below). 

 

The Combined Joint Task Force says the Coalition conducted 24 airstrikes on Daesh in Iraq. Seven were in Anbar, in or near Falluja (4), Habbaniya, Haditha, and Hit. Seventeen were in Ninewa, in or near Mosul (5), Qayara (2), and Sultan Abdullah, and in Tal Afar (8) and Sinjar in the northwest. [CJTF]

North (Tarmiya, Taji, etc.)

An MoI source says a police officer and a policeman were killed, and four other policemen wounded when an IED exploded on their vehicle in the Meshahda area in Tarmiya. [Mada]

Falluja

The Minister of Defense says the Falluja liberation operations are going according to plan and Iraqi forces will move toward Mosul after Falluja’s liberation. [Xendan]

 

Colonel Steve Warren, the Coalition Spokesman, says 4,000 Sunni tribal fighters are participating in the Falluja liberation battles. He also says Iraqi forces advanced 4 km (2.5 miles) toward Falluja city center. [Ghad] [Ghad]

Colonel Steve Warren, the Coalition spokesman, estimates that there are around 50,000 civilians in the city. He reiterated his understanding that (Shia) PMFs will not enter Falluja. [Mada]

The Mayor of Falluja says military operations around Falluja are focusing on surrounding the city, and they have not yet entered the city, in order to give families time to depart with safe passage. [Mawazin]

The PMF spokesman says Iraqi forces are 3 km away from Falluja. He also says only 50 families managed to leave the city and the battles should not be about advancing quickly as many civilians are still trapped. [Mawazin]

DaeshDaily comment. Some media outlets showed photos of damage allegedly caused by airstrikes on Falluja hospital. So far, Daesh didn’t say the hospital was hit. 

A Saudi TV channel showed a video of the Falluja hospital after it was allegedly bombed. The video doesn’t show any human casualties, and no humans at all are shown in the hospital. The original video was published by a Daesh parallel media account. [YouTube]

 

The director of the Kidnapped Yazidis Office in Erbil says more than 150 kidnapped Yazidis are in Falluja now and that he communicated with an Iraqi military commander to inform the military about that. DaeshDaily comment. One of Daesh’s routine propaganda themes is that Coalition bombing is inaccurate, kills civilians, and destroys civilian rather than military targets. This is intended to contrast with an even more prominent propaganda theme, that Daesh is the defender of Sunni Arabs. Almost every Daesh “report” on the results of Coalition bombing predictably follows this line. Daesh fighters are never killed in these reports. They sometimes get mentioned in separate reports later.

Northeast (Hasaka, Raqqa)

Sources close to the Syria Democratic forces says the SDF captured 10 villages north of Raqqa, but lost control of Hisha south of Ain Essa because of a Daesh surprise attack on the village. The sources also say the SDF will attack Daesh in Jarabulus in order to cut off the supply lines between Raqqa and Aleppo. [Qasioun]

A Syrian Army source says Syrian troops found the bodies of 31 people, including a child and a woman, in a mass grave east of Tadmur. [SANA]

East (Deir Ez-Zor)

Daesh launched attacks on SDF forces near the Abu Khashab area north of Deir Ez-Zor. Daesh started the attack with a vehicle bomb, killing or wounding several SDF fighters. Coalition warplanes launched airstrikes on Daesh locations east of Deir Ez-Zor. [Qasioun]

The spokesman of the National Accord Government military says the first stage of the operation to liberate Sirte ended with liberating the Hisha Jadida, Mahmiya, Washaka, Qadahiya, and Abu Najim areas, and the second stage has started. A spokesman in the operations says fifty four soldiers were killed and more than two hundred wounded so far in the operations. [Libya24]

British special forces blew up a Daesh suicide truck in Libya earlier this month, a military commander there has said. The strike apparently came when a vehicle, acting as a bomb, approached a bridge leading towards the city of Misrata.

UK forces appeared ready for the attack and fired a single missile during the incident on May 12, Commander Mohammed Durat told The Times. [The Independent]

A Libyan special forces spokesman says four men, including three brothers, were captured for their role in the Zliten training center explosion in January that killed 55 people and wounded more than 180. [Libya24]

 

The spokesman of the Libyan National Army refuted the reports stating that the Army led by General Hafter is moving toward the oilfield areas. The Army is interested only in going to Sirte and will move toward it soon. The Tunisian MoI says their security captured a Daesh terrorist who was linked to the Daesh cell that attacked Aryanah on May 11th. The MoI also says National Guard units captured the terrorist’s wife, who is also a member of the cell, in a different location. [Tunisien]
