DaeshDaily comment. With the recent attacks on Shia civilians, Daesh seems to be begging for a Shia attack on Sunni Iraqis, anywhere, so as to set off renewed sectarian conflict that would focus Iraqis against each other instead of Daesh. There have been aggressive statements by the PMFs, but they were directed against Daesh. The Shia PMFs seem focused on fighting Daesh terrorists, and need to maintain that discipline, as Daesh is getting desperate and generating sectarian violence may be their only hope of holding their territory in Iraq.

The IFP commander says his troops killed 4 Daesh suicide terrorists who were trying to target the Sayyed Mohammed Shrine in Balad. [Mada] S Salahuddin

DaeshDaily comment. Although the shrine is Shia, many Sunnis revere it and visit it. Daesh and the AQI have attacked Shia and Sunni shrines before, but Daesh has never tried to attack this shrine since 2014, fearing that a mass Shia retaliation would cause it to lose its support among Sunni communities, exactly like what happened after the destruction of the Al-Askari Shrine in Samarra in 2006. However, Daesh seems desperate these days and will do anything to confuse the situation in Iraq. A Shia retaliation means a huge regional and international media storm that might give Daesh a chance to survive.

Real Madrid soccer club issued a statement condemning the attack in Balad and saying its players will wear badges of mourning in their next game. The Balad attack targeted a café for Real Madrid fans. [Sumaria] [Real Madrid Facebook Page]

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says Ahrar Al-Sham and Al-Nusra captured Al-Zara, an Alawite village on the road between Hama and Homs, after a surprise attack on the Syrian Army. The groups killed at least nineteen civilians, including women and children. Social media activists published a photo of Al-Nusra terrorists stomping their feet on the dead women in the village. Al-Nusra issued a statement saying the women were legitimate targets because they shot at its men, and they were compelled to respond. The groups also kidnapped many other civilians and took them to Rusten nearby. [Arabi21]

Daesh Daily Comment: The photos show middle-aged women in home attire dead on the ground while 2 Al-Nusra terrorists are stepping on them. It is obvious that the women were not fighters, but the village is Alawite, which means men, women, and children are fair target for the Salafi armed groups, because within Salafism there are many fatwas that make it mandatory to kill Alawite, Druze, Shia, and other minorities. The Alawite in Syria are not supporting the Assad regime for power any longer. It is now about life and death. They believe they will otherwise be annihilated. This is one of the main reasons that the dictator is still in power.
