Ramadi

A tribal leader from Anbar says Iraqi forces captured Albu Dhiab east of Ramadi after heavy battles over 2 days. They are 50 meters away from the gate of the former Anbar Operations Command in Ramadi. [New Sabah] The Iraq War Media Cell (IWMC) confirms the liberation of Albu Dhiab, and says Iraqi forces killed several Daesh terrorists and destroyed their vehicles. IWMC also says Iraqi forces freed the Al-Maadheed area east of Anah, killing 16 terrorists. [Al-Masdar]

A local official in Khaldiya says Iraqi forces completely cleared Al-Mazra’a, 4 km (2.5 miles) east of Ramadi, and are advancing towards the government compound in Ramadi, killing 40 Daesh terrorists. Iraqi forces foiled a Daesh counterattack on the stadium area, killing 20 suicide bombers. [IWMC report]

Daesh Daily comment. Remember when suicide bombers were a new and unusual phenomenon? That’s not so long ago. Now they collect in guest houses and attack en masse. It is noticeable from our reports that a large percentage of Daesh assaults are led by multiple suicide bombers in vehicles. Even if most get stopped, the one that gets through may kill a lot of people.

BAGHDAD

The Committee urged the government to provide the displaced people with water and power. The temperature in Iraq has recently reached 53 C, more than 127 F. [Xendan]

The IAF conducted 13 sorties and the IAA 36, reflected in other reports, while the Coalition conducted 24 sorties that killed 10 terrorists and destroyed 21 locations, 6 hideouts, 9 mortar locations, a construction shovel and 3 vehicles. [IWMC report]

The Iraqi MoD and the Chairman of the Federal Commission in Russia sign a military cooperation agreement. [MoD website]

DaeshDaily comment. The US is committed to helping Iraq, why are the Iraqis buying weapons from Russia?

A Kurdish MP in the Iraqi Parliament says the Iraqi government is in control of Iraqi Kurdistan airspace and should stop the Turkish airstrikes on the Region. He said the statements of some Kurdish officials about Turkey’s right to protect itself don’t represent the Kurdish street.  [Al-Maalomah]  Another Kurdish MP had said yesterday Turkey is trying to protect its national security and the KRG cannot interfere in Turkey’s policies. [El-Ghad]

The Finance Committee in the Iraqi Parliament says $6.9 billion has been transferred to Daesh controlled areas in Mosul and Kirkuk through Iraqi and Jordanian currency exchange companies. [Al-Mesalah]

DaeshDaily comment: The Iraqi Central Bank holds an auction to sell US dollars to local companies. Apparently Daesh has used this auction through those companies to sell the Iraqi currency they get from the areas they control in Iraq. The $6.9 billion is an astonishing amount of money to transfer to your enemy, and it seems like this practice must have gone on for some time without a major issue being made of it.

Dijla Operations Command conducted a military operation in areas near Qara Tappa, destroying 2 Daesh vehicles and 3 motorcycles, and found 40 kg of explosives. [IWMC report]

A Sunni MP from Diyala says more than 50 people were kidnapped in different areas in Diyala during the last 48 hours. [Al-Baghdadia]

DaeshDaily comment. There is no way to evaluate such statements. There will likely be a counter-statement from someone that the people detained are suspected Daesh. The problem is that the PMFs usually don’t really know who the Daesh residents are, and it’s easier to just suspect all Sunnis. Many Sunnis take the position that all Sunnis are innocent victims of Shia militias. Too often, it’s more about politics than justice, but that’s exactly what Iraq has to overcome.

The chairman of the security committee in Diyala GC says Iraqi forces arrested 3 men wanted on terrorism charges in Khan Bani Saad, 20 km (12.5 miles) southwest of Baquba. [Al-Sumaria]

KIRKUK

A security source says heavy clashes erupted yesterday between Daesh and Army of the Men of the Naqshbandi Order, JRTN, in a village in Hawija, over territorial disputes. [Byareq News]

DaeshDaily Comment: Most of Daesh advances in Sunni Iraqi areas were in coordination with the JRTN, a Baath party military arm. The fight between the two might be inevitable but so far their alliance has given both groups a lot of advantages.

NINEWA

A security source says Daesh terrorists from Tal Afar, Sunni Turkmen, are sending their families to Syria then to Turkey. The source says 220 families have left so far and dozens are leaving every day after paying $700 each. [New Sabah]

DaeshDaily comment. This report suggests there may be a larger story. A disproportionate number of Daesh crimes in northern Ninewa have been committed by Sunni Turkmen. The arranged departures are likely motivated by fear of retribution for these crimes. The only plausible basis for this fear is that they now think Daesh is going to lose.

A Peshmerga commander says the Kurdish authorities issued an amnesty to Daesh fighters who didn’t kill Peshmerga fighters and didn’t commit any crimes. [Iraq Press] A Kurdish official says the KRG and the IKR Parliament issued an order to release Daesh prisoners who didn’t commit crimes. He says they shouldn’t have done that since the terrorism crimes are not within the KRG authority. [ROJ News]
