BAGHDAD

Political developments

Sistani’s rep in Kerbala condemns the attacks on civilians and mosques in Muqdadiya and holds the government responsible for preventing such crimes and not allowing the presence of armed groups outside the government. He also says the government should be vigilant, because Daesh might launch attacks in certain areas, and should support the PMFs and tribal fighters. He also says the government should not make impromptu decisions that threaten citizens’ livelihoods when facing an economic crisis. [Sumaria] [Sumaria]

Speaker Jubouri welcomes the statement of Sistani rep regarding the crimes in Muqdadiya and Baghdad Jadida. [Sumaria]

The spokesman of the new Sunni coalition, the High Coordination Committee led by former Vice President Usama Nujaifi, threatens to go to the UN for international protection for Sunni Arabs on Iraq. He accused the PMFs of sectarian killing and displacement in several liberated areas and asked PM Abadi to keep CoR members away from “armed work”. [Mada]

DaeshDaily comment. We noticed the difference between the balanced position of the Speaker and the position of the new alliance. The Speaker condemns all crimes and violence against Iraqis while the alliance focuses on the crimes against Sunnis. The same position has been repeated over the years now by all Iraqi sectarian leaders. It is understandable in a democracy that elected officials represent the points of view of their constituencies. What is not acceptable is ignoring obvious crimes against citizens from other sects.

The Chaldean Patriarch Louis Sako condemns the recent attacks against civilians in Baghdad and Diyala and asks the government to enforce the rule of law and protect the citizens. [Sumaria]

[Sumaria]

DaeshDaily comment. The civilian death total of 8 seems impossibly low.

A security source says an Iraqi-American force conducted a paratroop operation in Hay Al-Askari in Muqdadiya and captured wanted men accused of destruction in the city. [Baghdadia]

DaeshDaily comment. This report, like many previous reports about airborne operations, is most likely fabricated. The one difference from previous reports is that this neighborhood is a mostly Shia area and was targeted heavily by Daesh shelling during the last months. The phony implication here is that the Americans, supported by the Iraqi government or the KRG, is targeting Shia militias.

[Hawar]

Northwest

Heavy clashes continued Friday in the countryside north of Aleppo near the Turkish border between Daesh on the one side and various allied militias on the other, including the Islamic Brigades and the Sultan Murad Brigades (SMB). [ARA]

Other reports appear to show Daesh gathering fighters in the city of Jarabulus, and in the last two days, bringing heavy weaponry and vehicles from Al-Bab, “with help from the Turkish state,” according to a report from the pro-PYD news agency Hawar. Daesh’s concentration of forces in Jarabulus and movement out of Al-Bab and Manbij were also reported earlier. Hawar’s sources allege that the Turkish military has been sending “large shipments of arms” to the Syrian village of Raey on the Turkish border through a settlement known as Al-Bili on the Turkish side, and also alleges that Daesh and the Turkish border guards extinguish their lights on a nightly basis to facilitate illicit shipments passing across the border to Raey.
