BAGHDAD

PM Abadi says the military operations are going well and according the plans and schedules. He also says Daesh is broken in Ramadi and they tried unsuccessfully to compensate for that in Baiji but they failed. [Al-Maalomah]

DaeshDaily comment. An optimistic and encouraging prediction by the Prime Minister. Securing Ramadi and Baiji would be a military turning point.

PM Abadi says there are some people who are trying to “poison” the relationships between the demonstrators and the security forces by infiltrating the demonstrations and clashing with the security forces. The PM issued orders to the security forces not to shoot in the air during the demonstrations and says clashing with the demonstrators is a “red line”. [Al-Mada]

The spokesman of the PMFs says protecting the demonstrators is not their job and they are ready to secure any Iraqi city without disturbing the military situation on the frontlines. He also says Daesh losses in Baiji were bigger than all the other contested areas in Diyala, Anbar and the rest of Salahuddin combined. [Al-Sumaria]

DaeshDaily comment: This statement comes in response to claims by the Badr militia leader who attributed Daesh recent advances in Baiji, since reversed, to the PMFs being busy securing the demonstrations.

DaeshDaily comment. The number of Daesh executions and atrocities is increasing, especially in Ninewa and in the Mosul area. Some of these serve unintentionally to reveal that people in Mosul are increasingly frustrated from living under Daesh. The number of assassinations of Daesh members is also increasing and emphasizes the same point. However, the slow progress of the government’s military effort has left these and other brave citizens exposed to retaliation. If the government can finally solidify its hold on Baiji and move toward Shirqat, up the road toward Mosul, the pressure on Daesh will increase but the citizens who oppose them would be at increased risk until and unless Mosul is recaptured.

A security source says Daesh arrested 90 civilians arbitrarily in the Muhandiseen area in Mosul, accusing them of aiding the prisoners escaped yesterday. [BasNews]

DaeshDaily comment: This is another Saddam era standard procedure, in which they would arrest as many people as possible from the location of any event and torture them in order to get information.
